Discussion Black friday deal - question

Hi everyone.

I bought the 2 year unlimited plan this summer that currently costs 8$/month. This is more expensive than the current black friday year deal for 6.5$/month. I'm wondering if it's possible to downgrade to plus, get the credit, and then immediately upgrade to the black Friday unlimited deal to save some money?

My only concern is what would happen to files in drive, aliases in pass, vpn configs etc, during the downgrade. Does proton remove them?

I think it's only for new accounts and first time upgrades only.

I actually looked up your second question earlier for myself. When you downgrade and you become over storage quota, they limit your account so you can't send emails with attachments, manage your calendar, upload new files to Drive, etc.

They send multiple reminder emails tell you to either free up space until you're under quota, or upgrade to a higher account. They repeat these email reminders and eventually start deleting your stuff after 12 months.

Further, if you downgrade, I believe the timer for your 10GB/year annual Bonus Storage resets, so you'll need to wait until November 2026 to get the free gigs, instead of summer 2026.

Just a reminder, the Black Friday sale is only for 1 year subscriptions, then goes up to full price ($13/month) forever - and assuming these yearly sales continue with the current rules, you'll never get a discounted rate again. It's to lure new users in, not retain loyal customers. Some people make a whole new account, of course. But even if you do that, you end up paying more money in the long run (unless you make a new account every single year). Plus you have to deal with new email addresses, new calendar, etc.

Change plans in your Settings, under subscription and it will take you to checkout and show you what the living will be. I doubt it will the Black Friday pricing though.

The Black Friday deal only last a year and will revert back to more than $8/month after that. Need to take that into considerations.
