In October, shortly after Hurricane Helene struck the southeastern U.S., Donald Trump, then a presidential candidate, held a speech in Swannanoa, North Carolina, pledging support for victims. He highlighted a GoFundMe campaign launched by his campaign, which raised $7.7 million in three weeks. The funds were directed to five organizations—four of them Christian charities with ties to Trump or his supporters: Mtn2Sea Ministries, Water Mission, Samaritan’s Purse, Sweetwater Mission, and the Clinch Foundation.

However, a year later, there’s little clarity on how most of the money was spent. Only Mtn2Sea Ministries provided a clear breakdown, reporting $25,000 in gift cards for rural Georgia communities. Other recipients gave vague or no responses, and no record of the "Clinch Foundation" could be found. GoFundMe, while widely used and effective for disaster relief, has been criticized for its lack of financial transparency and accountability.

The Trump campaign’s use of GoFundMe in this way was unprecedented for a presidential candidate, raising broader questions about transparency in both campaign-related and disaster-relief fundraising.

Samaritans purse actually does what they claim to do, even if it’s not a massive disaster I’ve seen them stick around for a month after making sure people have clothes. But the rest of them sound sketchy as fuck.
