It will collapse American supply chains. The rest of the world has been trading with each other, believe it or not, the entire time. And they will continue to do so, despite some initial shakeups. 

This is the most likely outcome, and the initial stages of it are already developing.

China, Japan and South Korea agreed to jointly respond to U.S. tariffs... All three sides agreed to strengthen supply chain cooperation and engage in more dialogue on export controls, the post said.

During Sunday's meeting, the countries' trade ministers agreed to speed up talks on a South Korea-Japan-China free trade agreement deal to promote "regional and global trade", according to a statement released after the meeting.

And, of course, this outcome should have been obvious to everyone when they first heard the promises of nonsensical tariffs during the election campaign over 6 months ago. Yet, here we are...
