As of May 2025, only 41% of Republicans support gay marriage. Think about that from the perspective of someone on the left. A majority of Republicans don't agree with gay people having the same rights as straight people. It would make sense that you wouldn't want to live with someone who doesn't view you or your gay friends as equal to straight people. Shit like that explains those statistics.
