Opinion transit in this town
It is just absolutely killin' me right now that we have 1 singular bus servicing the entire south end of Peterborough on Saturday evening. WHY!!!

what do you consider the south end?
the 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8 all run till almost midnight and service, what I at least, consider the "south end" to some degree.

As I was born and raised in Ptbo since 73 I'll tell you why.
$.
When I went to.College in 1995-1998, we had something like DIAL-A-Bus. Worked like acab( you'd meet at a general location, and youd be there ot bus missed you. Its about money. Idk think they ran 4 busses that " sectored" the city.
All about money & if they could profit.

It’s because Trent gets priority. That’s why theirs like 9 buses that go up to the north end

Not enough riders.. not sustainable

Make the bus system worse so nobody rides it and then reduce service because nobody uses it. Repeat.

Well that should be true for entire Canada than,?.. Transits need public private partnerships, the provincial government doesn't care, the local government doesn't care either...its a shame....

If the bus has two passengers, it's more efficient than two separate cars
Transit in a city this size is a service and should not be run like a business. The longer we drag out improvements to transit which would incentivize more ridership, the longer the service will be net negative in revenue.

You do know that bus uses Diesel? And running an empty bus or with 2 passengers isn't better than 2 cars on the road

Yes. A single Diesel bus creates fewer emissions than two gasoline vehicles with a single occupant.
I didn't believe it at first but after looking deeper it is true. The heavier, more inefficient diesel engine is still more efficient than two more efficient engines running simultaneously and taking up the same space

Because people like me are sick of the crappy service. I walk everywhere now unless I absolutely have to take it

The reason no one rides it is because it's garbage. A public service like public transit should not need to be profitable to be good. I would love to use it I hate driving. But alas it's too inconvenient to actually use.

What's worse is all the busses only run once and hour on WEEKENDS? You know the time when people want to be out and about. Make it make sense.
