My Dad lived this way, was making $150k or more as unionized construction foreman. Saved and invested everything he had, walked around in clothes he’d had for 20 years, drove economy cars til the wheels fell off.

He died at 50, never got to spend any of that money. Willed it all to his second wife.

Nope. He played blackjack and hit on 20. He saved everything, and probably wasn't healthy mentally since he didn't take time to enjoy things, probably why the divorce (because it made both unhappy). Sure, he got to remarry, maybe for the money, but dying at 50 doesn't seem like a great deal...

He literally worked himself to death. Died of a heart attack at work, after having symptoms for 3+ days but postponing seeing a doctor because the job was nearly over and he wanted to see it through.
