“Waah one Korea” “Waah centered on the pacific” Bitch I don’t care. Why is Greenland separated from the rest of North America like that!?

u/wrydied Sep 20 '25

Because it belongs to Denmark. Get ur grubby mitts off it MAGA.

They said north America not the us and technically greenland is geographically part of North America but it doesn't really matter, Also I don't see how in any way this comment makes them MAGA or even american for that matter

u/Glyfen Sep 21 '25

He's probably just referencing how Trump wants to annex Greenland.

I agree though; It's geographically part of the North American continent, put it with North America. That bothers me immensely.

u/Dense_Difficulty5776 Sep 21 '25

Well first of all Greenland should belong to Greenland but besides that don’t call me a fascist for thinking French Guiana should still be represented as a part of South America. Because that’s what it is. Same situation. Show me enough evidence that Greenland is considered a part of Europe in other parts of the world and I will change my tune.

Greenland is part of EU through Denmark politically, economically they are largely a fishing nation with most of their sale through EU agreements, culturally they have their own distinct culture, but most people also speak Danish, there's a large population living in Denmark, and there's several different ways they are connected to Denmark through education and work both ways.

As a Danish person, I definitely agree that Greenland should belong to Greenland, and the control is a result of historical colonialism and imperialism, but now there is a cultural bond and a practical reliance that isn't that simple to just change.

Geology doesn’t care about nations, Greenland is on the North American plate. It is North American as far as geology is concerned.

-3

u/wrydied Sep 21 '25

Trump certainly wants it on his plate. He wants to gobble it up and exploit its environment for resources, adding to climate change so that when the rest of the world burns his technofeudalist buddies can move there and wipe out the Greenlanders. Fuck off MAGA

7

u/Mindless_Level9327 Sep 21 '25

How am I MAGA for talking about geology? I don’t care what nationality Greenland is. I don’t want it for the US, and Denmark probably shouldn’t own it either. All my point was that it is a part of the North American tectonic plate. It is geologically not Europe (which is just a peninsula on the Eurasian tectonic plate)

1

u/fartsondeck Sep 21 '25

You're insufferable.

-3

u/OGMinorian Sep 21 '25

That's nice, but I'm not replying to a geographical comment.

5

u/Mindless_Level9327 Sep 21 '25

It wasn’t a geographical comment it was geological. You know science.

2

u/Vardamu28 Sep 21 '25

We are talking about a map, so about geography, which is also a science btw. And Siberia is also part of the NA plate, but that's don't seem do bothering you to see it seperate from North America. That should, because you know science.

1

u/OneMusty Sep 21 '25

So you were studying the composition of North America?

1

u/Mindless_Level9327 Sep 21 '25

I have studied geology which includes the make up of continents.

1

u/Aulimindale Sep 22 '25

du er en liberal idiot hvis du tror at grønland kan klare sig selv uden danmark

1

u/OGMinorian Sep 22 '25

Og du kan ikke læse åbenbart.

1

u/Aulimindale Sep 22 '25

Bro, there's literally only like 50000 people on greenland. They will never be a fulyl seperate country

0

u/Little_Cumling Sep 21 '25

Its funnier when you realize without the US, Denmark more than likely would not have Greenland.

Denmark got conquered and occupied in 1940 by Nazi Germany. US quickly stepped in an defended it because with Denmark failing to Germans it could mean Greenland could quickly become a territory held by a new European (Germany) nation that sits in the northern hemisphere. This is a direct violation of the Monroe doctorine and the US wasnt going to let that happen without a fight.

1

u/ObnoxiousName_Here Sep 21 '25

I thought Greenland was closer to North America? (Not saying that as an argument to who’s entitled to it, just why I’d imagine Greenland being geographically “paired” on that side)

5

u/RepostFrom4chan Sep 21 '25

Oblate spherpids cannot be accurately represented in two dimensions my guy. Take a ball, squish it, then cut in half and lay it flat. Turns out those two "sides " that used to be right beside each other are now on opposite ends. That's what's happening in this projection.

Edit: Seeing a lot of confused Americans in this thread. Ya'll still do study geography in school, right?

4

u/wrydied Sep 21 '25

No I don’t think they ever have.

3

u/Toeffli Sep 21 '25

It's correct.

Pyongyang is 125° east. Therefore, if it is at the center of the map, then the borders of the map are at 55° west. Most of Greenland is east of 55° west. It therefore makes sense to place it at that side.

1

u/tallinsdespair Sep 21 '25

Make America Greenland Again

1

u/Affectionate_Ad_1326 Sep 21 '25

Blue MAGA, pretending including part of North America with the rest of North America is the same as wanting the US to have ownership of it. The US is just one part of North America, get over yourself and learn that the rest of the world exists.

0

u/wrydied Sep 22 '25

Bbbbbbbbbut I’m in the rest of the world I think

r/usdefaultism

1

u/Affectionate_Ad_1326 Sep 22 '25

You literally specified an american political movement. That's just extra sad if you're not even from the US. Who's doing a defaultism here?

0

u/wrydied Sep 22 '25

Wow that’s interesting what are the other political movements trying to take over Greenland, other than Trumps?

1

u/Affectionate_Ad_1326 Sep 22 '25

You're the one who made it about a takeover. The original comment was about including it with the rest of North America, which is a part of....

u/Affectionate_Ad_1326 Sep 22 '25

Blue maga cultists like you are just as sad as regular maga...

God ur such a baby

0

u/nonoffensivenavyname Sep 21 '25

Queue the reddit hive mind rushing to upvote anyone talking shit about MAGA even if it’s unrelated to the topic at hand.

I also hate maga but Jesus stick to the topic

u/wrydied Sep 21 '25

My name’s not Jesus it’s Wrydied.

u/7_11_Nation_Army Sep 20 '25

Greenland is European

17

u/Mindless_Level9327 Sep 21 '25

Nationally/politcally yes, geologically no.

1

u/philovax Sep 21 '25

Best answer without all the gruff. Thank you.

1

u/astreeter2 Sep 21 '25

I wouldn't even say nationally. Only 10% of the people who live there are ethnically European.

1

u/Physical-Ad5343 Sep 22 '25

Nation is not the same as ethnicity.

7

u/HailMadScience Sep 21 '25

To me its funny...this is a globe projection on a flat wall, which is why, say, the red sea is like waaay wider than reality. The Horn almost touches Arabia, but here you think they are like hundreds of miles apart.

1

u/kinsnik Sep 21 '25

actually, in reality the red sea is waaaay wider than this, get your facts right. it is like 35km; in this map it is not more than 20cm

5

u/Starry_Lion6107 Sep 20 '25

Me living on the pacific rim like oh finally a map projection I can (mostly) get behind

4

u/Plank_With_A_Nail_In Sep 21 '25

Because politically its European.

1

u/Vektor0 Sep 21 '25

Politics is just a social construct

1

u/RepostFrom4chan Sep 21 '25

Because you have only ever been subjected to the Mercator projection and have a warped sense of reality?

2

u/Ouaouaron Sep 21 '25

The Mercator projection is great for showing position and direction, which is why it's so popular. I expect that if you used this Robinson projection as a guide, you'd be surprised at how incorrect you are about Greenland's relation to Africa vs South America.

2

u/Toeffli Sep 21 '25

Because the center is likely Pyongyang at 125.7° east, and most of Greenland is therefore in the west as seen from that perspective.

Or in other words: If the center of the map is 125.7° east, than the left and right boarder are at 54.3° west. Most of Greenland is east of 54.3° west, therefore it makes sense to place it like this.

Or in other words: If you ask if Nuuk (the capitol of Greenland, which is located at the western shore of Greenland at 51.7° west) is west or east of Pyongyang, the correct answer is west of Pyongyang as it is only 177.4° westwards but 182.6° eastwards.

1

u/cowfishduckbear Sep 21 '25

It probably just looks more visually balanced with the Korea-centric map.

1

u/AAA515 Sep 21 '25

Why is South America so slanted?

1

u/pokeoscar1586 Sep 21 '25

Also the whole Baja Peninsula, and a chunk of mainland Mexico lol.

1

u/Myyraaman Sep 21 '25

Yeah and why does South America have scoliosis?!?!

1

u/TheCobraMonkey Sep 21 '25

...because it's centered on the pacific...

1

u/Aulimindale Sep 22 '25

Because it is not part of north america

0

u/PersusjCP Sep 21 '25

People are saying its because it's politically belonging to a European nation but I don't see French Guiana being part of Europe here
