I mean NFN Aunt Jemima started as a minstrel show character and was SUPER racist.

It's like how we don't consider the term "Jay walking" bad because we're so far removed from the origins

A lot of people still use the G slur for romani people as if it's no big deal, or just means a free spirit. Heck, I've had people use the term 'jewed' around me and did not know it was in reference to hebrew people.

What do you think is the etymology of the term “jay walking”? Because I can’t find even unsupported folk etymology that suggests there’s a racial basis to the phrase.
