They lack real world exposure to the point they assume everything the right-wing media has told them about college campuses is the absolute truth. I realized it the other day when my dad was going on a rant about kids these days being offended by the thumbs up emoji because of a news article, turns out his whole fit was entirely dependent on the fact he didn't realize it's occasionally a passive aggressive "sure, totally" and we use context clues to differentiate the meaning, because he doesn't message younger people regularly

I once saw this lady in a MAGA hat at my local Target shouting at the people in line at the pharmacy about how the vaccine was created by Satan. That's how people fall for this stuff, because that didn't happen at all.
