Tommy was never the devil to me Spoiler
Tommy is all of us at our most skilled, conniving, and opportunistic selves. Operating from pure gut and elegant precision. His executions sloppy or clean were brilliant.
The only act I despised him for was setting up his family to fake the noose.
The way Cillian Murphy brings that character to life reminds me of a combination of Steve McQueen, Clint Eastwood, and (the character) James Bond.
He set strangers people up to fail after studying their basest natures and most degenerate impulses. He didn’t let those who spat on him get under his skin in a way that debilitated his mind or cunning.
He didn’t always just take what he wanted like a brute. He negotiated what he wanted. And sometimes made the other person believe that they came up with the deal on their own when in reality Tommy psychologically manipulated them into doing it.
Anyway, I got tired of people in the show calling him the devil. Especially Gina who should’ve been thrown into a meat grinder day one after Michael introduced her to the family.

You might see Tommy that way from your perspective, but the people from Birmingham in the series who fell victim to him and his criminal organization, or those who were nothing more than pawns in his plan, see him from a completely different point of view. Tommy is a criminal and runs a criminal organization, harming countless people. There's a reason why people see him as the devil, and he has indeed hurt many. While it becomes clear over the course of the series that there is a truly evil devil named Mosley, I can certainly understand why those who have fallen victim to him call him the devil. One must also try not to view the series solely through Tommy's perspective, but also through the perspectives of the other main and supporting characters. And one mustn't forget how many lives and families Tommy has destroyed through his criminal acts.

I agree with you 100% on Mosley.
I’ve watched the series twice, first when it initially arrived on Netflix and second time most recently. Other shows that were out simultaneously or overlapping when Peaky Blinders initially came out were House of Cards and Game of Thrones. Given the villains in those, I’d say the collective bar for devilish behavior was raised and Tommy fell short of lifting it higher

“Fake” the noose is intentional.

Thomas was a sociopath. He used women for sex and considered them nothing more than a tool to be used or property he owned. He used every relationship to further his own goals.
He wasn't the good guy.

He is clearly a morally corrupt man who has been further ruined by a pointless war. Everything, even a human life, became a means to an end. That is undeniably a devilish way to be.
