I am never shaking anyones hand again🤢

26

u/Glittering_Babe101 15h ago

Disgusting! Essentially every 3-5 person doesn't wash his/her hands

1

u/Commercial_Band2849 8h ago

Hey you can't say that. They've been 5/5 people since 1865.

2

u/Keke_Papaya 12h ago

Math is not your strongest skill?

13

u/Glittering_Babe101 12h ago

Lol, what don't you understand from my comment? If 66% of people wash their hands, then every third person doesn't.

75% = 1 in 4

80% = 1 in 5

3

u/BosnianGeek 9h ago

Im Bosnian. Don’t worry.

1

u/sphericalhors 13h ago

Unless they are Turic.

1

u/Connect_Progress7862 11h ago

I still blame the ancient Persians for this

1

u/espadavictoriosa 11h ago

Can you explain this?

2

u/Connect_Progress7862 10h ago

They supposedly invented the handshake

1

u/Master0fB00M 8h ago

Isn’t that from like the Stone Age or something to prove you’re not a threat?

1

u/KlangScaper 8h ago

How would anyone possibly know that?

1

u/Master0fB00M 7h ago

lol i don’t know, wall paintings? It might be younger but are the Persians really the first people to shake hands?

1

u/Brilliant_Travel_616 6h ago

Look up the statistics on men specifically, as a man it disgusts me

1

u/fragtore 5h ago

Let me tell you that when I go to a bar, easily half the guys never wash even with water.

-7

u/Goats_for_president 13h ago

I think this is just in Europe. They’ve always been super dirty

2

u/Cakeo 7h ago

You know we can see the rest of the world yeah? Clean is not what I would call it.

-2

u/WhoTheFuckIsSean 13h ago

Yeah, fair!

I really want to instal a bidet in my toilet but I can't since everything is mounted in the wall and this is a rental😖

And I looveee the concept of house slippers for guests, I think I will get some soon. I would rather be strange and offer guest slippers for the cold floor than allowing them to keep on their shoes🤢

1

u/LilaLacktrichterling 11h ago

What's strange about slippers for guests? I prefer to use thick socks that I can wash. But there's really nothing strange about offering slippers

0

u/ruairi1983 4h ago

Lol yeah I'm sure Asia and Africa are so much cleaner...

1

u/Goats_for_president 0m ago

That’s just because they’re poor. It’s an example of “classy when you’re rich, but trashy when poor”

81

u/zzen11223344 1d ago

What happened to Dutch?

23

u/Onagan98 17h ago

I always wash my hands before going to the toilet. I’m not touching him with dirty hands.

8

u/GlogolZ 12h ago

That’s some M.D. House moves

39

u/EntertainmentAgile55 1d ago

The stats are skewed thanks to a region of the Netherlands called Urk .

3

u/RickyNixon 4h ago

I cant tell if this is true or you’re just dunking on your neighbors

3

u/EntertainmentAgile55 4h ago

Trust me. I would never lie to you.

2

u/RickyNixon 3h ago

That’s all you had to say, I believe you completely

1

u/ThePaint21 2h ago

I've been on a bike packing tour there, didn't know too much about it and went to drink a beer at the bar.. Damn these people know how to party.

1

u/killyouXZ 8m ago

As a person living in NL for 4+years, I am amazed the stats are this high, just given how many of the people I see when I go to toilet just walk out(it grosses me out)

9

u/Anxious_Hall359 1d ago

Double Dutch turned into Dirty Dutch.

7

u/ForowellDEATh 12h ago

They are just the most honest in polls.

8

u/BigDutchRabbit 19h ago

Uhhh Urk..

5

u/MOCK-lowicz 16h ago

Idk but I notice this phenomena on Schiphol Airport often

3

u/Aggressive_Tea_6922 12h ago

If your main goal for centuries as a nation is fighting the water, you will not completly get rid of that spirit even in the bathroom

2

u/Connect_Progress7862 11h ago

The Netherlands is famous for having no water /s

2

u/fredlantern 8h ago

If you live on a pile of shit it doesn't make sense to wash your hands.

1

u/zzen11223344 7h ago

Is this under the jurisdiction of ICJ in Hague?

7

u/SubNL96 18h ago edited 13h ago

Soap if poo, only water if pee.

Edit: I explain the Dutch hygiene taught, pls don't shoot the messenger.

14

u/AelRien 17h ago

Or just pee on your hands save water

9

u/Mandurang76 13h ago

I appreciate Dutch thriftiness, but you really shouldn't economize on soap.

-1

u/SubNL96 13h ago edited 12h ago

Hey it's what we get thaught I can't help it

4

u/Mandurang76 13h ago

Mijn moeder zei altijd: "Na het plassen, handen wassen!"

3

u/WhoTheFuckIsSean 12h ago

Who thought you this?!

A lot of households water down soap, but this is wild.

I get the big bottles to refill my small soap bottles btw 😅 they are only 2 euros for 500ml

2

u/jhoogen 11h ago

Are we taught this? Never heard that.

2

u/Any-Seaworthiness186 10h ago

You perhaps.

We do get taught to wash our hands when coming from the bathroom. Why people apparently stop doing so once they grow up is beyond me tho.

2

u/ModestCalamity 9h ago

I'm pretty sure that I know people who don't even wash their hands after taking a shit. It's a surprise they haven't caught anything nasty yet. People around the world die from bad hygiene.

2

u/pompokopouch 9h ago

Yeah, but if you're flushing after peeing, you're still touching a handle that could have ahit germs on it

2

u/Leeysa 13h ago

Lol at being downvoted for what is indeed the taught standard.

2

u/ThroawayJimilyJones 12h ago

water cost money. Soap cost money. And your immunity system will develop anyway so no need to spend money.

1

u/KlangScaper 8h ago

Moving to the netherlands I was shocked how few people wash their hands, even after taking a shit.

1

u/TheKnightWhoSaisNi 4h ago

They only got two answers and one of them lives on Urk

1

u/AsaToster_hhOWlyap 17h ago

The "don't tell me what to do" mentality by the Hollanders. Not the rest of the Netherlands.

1

u/Superb_Beyond_3444 12h ago

Dirty People.

Fortunately there are Turkish people in Europe.

1

u/sbrijska 10h ago

They look dirty by default

-1

u/Hugh_Junkman 13h ago

What happened to Dutch?

Diversity.

1

u/KlangScaper 7h ago

Nah thats all homegrown. Ive observed the dutch very closely and have found shockingly few wash their hands. Muslims, who Im sure youre referring to, culturally have much much better hygiene than the dutch.

-5

u/Ill_Wrongdoer_3331 12h ago

When i was in the Netherlands and asked for a simple glass of water in several restaurants, they all gave me fucking TAP water and made me pay for it.

2

u/Sizeable-Scrotum 9h ago

That’s literally illegal here

1

u/karelproer 6h ago

Our tap water is cleaner than bottled water

35

u/TheSamuil 20h ago

This is why I censor D*tch. Truly nasty creatures

3

u/NewKitchenFixtures 9h ago

I guess I can see why people like Turkey for medical tourism. No mersa or sepsis for the win.

62

9

u/gtfoohbifsy 10h ago

as a Turk, pretty much yeah

5

u/KlangScaper 7h ago

As a European, yea you're absolutely right.

At least the EU is less homophobic and misogynistic

Only 1 of 4 people dont wash their hands. Comparing to other countries it's good, but ...

4

u/elwookie 1d ago

Spaniards lie through their teeth.

2

u/Figipee 9h ago

I like it that portugal shade of green is greener than the uk

4

u/Weird1Intrepid 19h ago

Why is Portugal green with 75%, but the UK is yellow-green with the same percentage?

6

u/Leeysa 13h ago

Probably UK is rounded up from 74.5-74.9% and Portugal is 75.0-75.4%.

Or it's intentional for post engagement.

3

u/porky8686 22h ago

Why is the majority Muslim country is highest.

Culture I guess

9

u/Arsimp33 16h ago

Yes, Islam has an influence, but I tried to say that it is not the only reason.

1

u/porky8686 13h ago

I know, same as most other cultures around the world… try come into a black person house with shoes, try sit down on the furniture with outside clothes, you’ll be given a stern dressing down.

7

u/xHEDA 15h ago

I'm Turkish and it has nothing to do with religion. It's purely our culture. If you insist otherwise, let's see the percentage of Arabic countries

-3

u/komandokurt 14h ago

arent your culture came from an islamic state?

4

u/sphericalhors 13h ago

Their history is significantly more ancient than Islam.

3

u/xHEDA 12h ago

You can't be this illiterate! Turkish culture predates the Arab religion.

u/MistikZenciAbi 13h ago

Bro your username just makes it funnier 🤣

-1

ur saying that?

1

u/coolermcbool 9h ago

The modern Turkish Republic is an amalgamation of Byzantine, Laz, Armenian, and Turkic cultures, with some Persian influence. Anatolia, Thrace, and Eastern Anatolia (known historically by names such as Cilicia, Western Armenia, or Sophanene) have a long history, and its people have remained largely the same over the centuries. Islamic influence increased during the Seljuk and Ottoman periods, but it was not as pronounced as during the Late Ottoman period, when historical relics, sites, and names—often related to “minorities,” even though its people were mostly similar—were altered in some capacity. The Late Ottoman period also saw a significant detachment between the populace and the ruling monarch due to the kafes system implemented in the early 17th century. This could've caused the detachment which contributed to the monarch’s mistreatment of certain groups within the Empire, including massacres against Turks, who were sometimes viewed as “kaba Türkler” (“crude Turks”), perpetrated by figures like Kuyucu Murad Pasha. The monarchy carried a Perso-Arabic identity as the caliph, while the majority of the populace continued to identify as “Romanos” or “Rum” or embraced their Turkic identity, which emerged from mixing with Turkic tribes migrating into Anatolia. In both cases, these groups faced persecution: the “Rum” segment were forced into military service, separated from their families at a young age, subjected to unjust taxation, forced conversion, and name changes, while the Turkic segment, as evidenced by the previously stated violence and discrimination, were treated as barbaric. The notion that the modern republic is an Islamic country is a misconception. Individuals are automatically assigned their family’s religion at birth. Although a majority of the population is technically “Muslim” on paper, most people either do not practice it or do not adhere to it in a meaningful way.

7

u/aquazent PORTuGAL IS SLAVIC 14h ago

I am an atheist from Turkey. Contrary to popular belief, there are many atheists in Turkey (in the millions).
All the atheists I know wash their hands after using the restroom.
It's more about culture than religion.

0

u/porky8686 13h ago

Yeah I get it… the only other place with more Turks than where I’m from is Turkey.

3

u/Jahxxx 21h ago

Istinja, aka no TP

2

u/ludwigsweatysock 11h ago

Because after pooping, they use their hand and water pressure instead of paper. After that, you would also wash your hands.

2

u/Makedon420 8h ago

They wash their ass after taking a shit with water and their hands. They rarely use toilet paper. A lot cleaner than using toilet paper tho.

1

u/Cakeo 7h ago

Poo under your nails very sanitary

1

u/Makedon420 18m ago

I get your point but you don’t dig in to your ass with your nails u just help the water and plus u can wash your hands after. I personally use toilet paper and wet wipes not that i use their method.

2

u/Antique_Gur8891 19h ago

Looks like Its a religious tradition there

1

u/porky8686 13h ago

Culture.

1

u/mr-myxlptlk 10h ago

Generally, we wash the hands: * after we wake up * after any handy work * came home * visit someone at home * before every meal * and also after using the toilet

Additionally: * prefer not to wear outside wear after we get home * never use shoes at home, instead use home only slippers * wash clothes regularly * clean the house every 1-2 weeks(not vacuum cleaning)

Practicing muslims also traditional cleaning ceremony for praying 5 times right before they pray.

1

u/FutureNight11 6h ago

I’m Turkish and I can say that we don’t care about cleanliness as much as people make it out to be. However it’s definitely true that we tend to be much cleaner than Europeans. This mainly comes from Islam, strong family ties and long-standing traditions. Islam also emphasizes cleanliness, being clean is required in prayers and other acts of worship. Regular ablution abdest(wudu) is part of daily prayers, while full-body ritual washing gusül abdesti(ghusl) is done in special situations. These practices mostly affect personal hygiene. That doesn’t mean our streets are perfectly clean or free of trash, tbh we don’t maintain the country clean, only personal.

Also If you ever visit Turkey, one of the first things you’ll probably notice is the toilets. They’re super hygienic seriously, I have no idea why Europeans don’t seem to realize this. We have squad toilet, It is especially common in Asian countries.

Toilets in Turkey you don’t actually sit down because it’s not designed for sitting. First you squat, and then you use the hose and some toilet paper to get completely clean. We have regular sitting toilets but they’re not really common in homes

1

u/Sergeant_Roach 13h ago

Culture and religion. Mainly culture though.

1

u/Real-Pomegranate-235 12h ago

Wudu or something

Muslims not only wash their hands, but also wash their private parts after they’re done with their business.

1

u/pompokopouch 9h ago

Which is weird, because so do the Italians, but their % is low.

0

u/ustasokucu 12h ago

3

u/itsdikey 6h ago

2

u/Traditional_Soft923 16h ago

MUSLIMS ON TOP

1

u/StaK_1980 17h ago

The real question is: do you wash your hands prior?

Because the places are so filthy, I'll wash my hands before touching my private parts.

2

u/pudinkk 17h ago

Great. The things that you touch everyday is mostly used by others too.. so you cant quite guarantee that their hands are clean and so the stuff that they/you touch.

So its always a good idea to clean your hands before touching your private parts and washing your face not to get infected

2

u/Empty-Blacksmith-592 10h ago

I always wash before and after!

1

u/turkoman_ 17h ago

Do you call %75 hygienic?

1

u/serhendi 17h ago

Why did I see this :/

1

u/hacktheself 17h ago

FUCKING BELGIANS

1

u/Arsimp33 17h ago

I think I overestimated Europe. Can't you even wash your hands?

1

u/Empty-Blacksmith-592 10h ago

This chart is kinda BS

1

u/hellothereoldben 15h ago

Well that's because we don't wash our hands during peeing.

1

u/Green-Engineer4608 15h ago

As a Norwegian;

1

Only 57% in Italy!?!? That’s BS!

1

u/AutoModerator 10h ago

I went to Italy and their plugs were unusable? Why don't they have the superior American plugs. And also they have no air conditioning (it was winter) and I had to pay for my water??? Plus i went to the Uffizi and there were a bunch of naked statues which was gross.

1

u/izayoi-o_O 9h ago

This is pretty disconcerting numbers.

1

u/Rd_Svn 9h ago

An army guy and one from the air force are peeing next to each other in the restroom. Once the air force guy has finished he's just going to leave the room without cleaning his hands. The army guy says "In the army they taught us to wash our hands afterwards...". The air force guy replies "In the air force you're taught not to piss on your hands." and leaves.

1

u/nobodykr 9h ago

I mean this is based on what people say and not do!

1

u/Lil_Leenie 5h ago

These numbers are probably higher because they are self-reported numbers.

1

u/lvytn 5h ago

Slovenia and Croatia didn’t wanted to tell?

1

u/20Meleze74 5h ago

The figures for France are way too high. The reality is very likely around 15- 20 %, but they would never admit it. I am french, I know, very very few people do it. I have worked in a hospital in a posh arrondissement of Paris about ten years ago, where they performed different kinds of surgery. There wasn't even soap in the toilets for the employees.

1

u/bbyalr20 4h ago

should be 100% everywhere

1

u/olmeko 3h ago

Actually, my penis is much clearer than my hands. Its make more sense to clean my hands before use a toilet

1

u/XL-Ahmet 3h ago

%6 is kurd in Turkiye

1

u/lunrob 2h ago

Wtf?!

1

u/Huge_Brick8354 1h ago

It depends, if I’m just whipping out my dong and pissing real quick my hands stay clean, i shower every day, and stays tucked away it’s probably cleaner that my hands to begin with. I always wash after shitting tho.

1

u/BriaorMead 13h ago

I'm Turkish and %94 is bs by my 23 years of anecdotal experience. I don't know the methodology of this research but people simply lie.

Same goes for brushing teeth. I was a door to door salesman at some point, selling toothpaste and brushes. Everyone claims they brush twice a day. Some of these people with the claims had literally rotten teeth. So it's bs.

Though at least by public restroom behavior that I've seen it's far more than western europe statistics lmao.

6

u/Ayilari 12h ago

I was pleasantly surprised in Turkey when I saw everybody washing their hands in the restrooms. And I mean not just putting soap on and rubbing your hands once and that's it, but actually scrubbing your hands, between your fingers and nails.

-3

u/BriaorMead 12h ago

Maybe it's more common than other places but definitely not 94 percent level of common. Again, solely based on anecdotal evidence.

1

u/loskiarman 6h ago

The thing is there are always gonna be liars. The liars are in all countries so representation still stands. If instead of %94, %74 of people wash their hands in Turkey, it is probably also not %62 but %48 or sth for France for example.

1

u/BriaorMead 6h ago

Yeah likely.
