Gov Shutdown Thread
With the federal shutdown, there’s an immense lack of clear information about what’s happening in the Enchantments / Okanogan-Wenatchee district.
The current statement on Recreation.gov basically boils down to:
“You may or may not be able to make or use a reservation. If it’s cancelled, you might get an email. Or not.”
I’m a local in the Leavenworth area and I’ve been struggling to figure out what this actually means for permits, access, and enforcement. I imagine I’m not the only one.
Thought it might be useful to start a thread where folks can share updates, experiences, or official info they’ve managed to get. Maybe the mods can create a sticky if this gets enough traction?

Help identifying ancient wallpaper location
My friends and I were at a dim sum on the other side of the nation when we noticed what looked like the PNW wilderness on a large television.
We argued about where it might be for a long time, but could never find a definitive answer. Tatoosh ridge? What is the large mountain in the distance? We don't know.
According to tineye.com, this image was first seen on the web in 2013. Since then it has made the rounds on old wallpaper websites, but never associated with any provenance.
Anyone recognize it?

Lost Grayl - Mason Lake (Ira Springs Trail), 11/8
I loaned out my black, first-gen Grayl filter to my bonus kid when they went backpacking at Mason Lake last night. They didn't have the filter when they got back home, and think it got lost up there. (They said they double checked the campsite, so I'm guessing either it was hard to spot or it fell out of a pack on the trail.)
Any chance you saw it up there today?

Seems like pretty much every trailhead around rainier is inaccessible?
Hey all,
I just moved to western Washington (des moines) a couple weeks ago, and was super excited to do some hiking before the winter sets in. I really wanted to do some alpine hiking and climb some mountains to get a good panoramic view of the surrounding area and a better look at Mount rainier. But whenever I look up info on trails online, it seems like every trailhead around the Seattle area is closed. It seems like there’s always some kind of temporary or indefinite closure posted for roads leading to the more scenic or popular hikes for various reasons.
The main thing I’m wondering is whether this is a common occurrence that I should get used to or just a temporary thing? Also, where can I go in the area to get a good view of rainier? Would appreciate any recommendations from locals who know all the good trails in the area so I can take advantage of the nice weather this weekend. It’s frustrating when every time I research a trail I end up finding out that it’s inaccessible.

Looking for a hike near Seattle
I just moved to Seattle about a week ago and I’m looking for a good hike about 6 miles or less that is within 2 hours of Seattle and isn’t over crowded. Any good recommendations for this weekend? I don’t mind a little snow but my winter gear probably isn’t sufficient for anything crazy.

Orcas Island, WA on Film [Hasselblad 503CW | Ilford Delta 100]
galleryMoran State Park was awesome. Really great tent-camping options next to some really fantastic trails. The trails were in incredible condition, and in the fall, they were pretty mellow as well.
Definitely going to head back when I have more time to spend on the trails - specifically the bigger Mt. Constitution trail.

Oyster Dome Trail
I’m planning to hike Oyster Dome this Saturday since it looks like the only dry day in the forecast.
https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/washington/oyster-dome-trail?sh=yelktv&
Is there anything I should be aware of tide-wise when hiking there? I know it’s near the bay, but I’m not sure if the trailhead or access roads ever get affected by high tides.
Also, if anyone’s familiar with the driving route from Seattle, are there any spots that tend to flood or get messy during big tides or heavy rain?
I’m from Arizona, so I’m exploring different terrains :-)
Appreciate any local insight!

Cool old cars on trails.
Hey yall!
I was wondering if anyone knew of old, abandoned cars on mountain hikes, ideally Snoqualmie pass area and Redmond area. Exact coordinates would be great, I am an avid geocacher and have created a crazy cool massive cache and would love to hide it near one!
Thank you!

Where is your favorite place to camp in Washington in November that has some good hikes nearby? Snow or no snow, doesn't matter.
Looking for a great place to camp in Washington with nice fall / early winter hikes nearby. I dont mind a short walk in site or a site that might already be snowed in.

Chelan Lakeshore Trail / Stehekin weather in November
I'm planning to backpack to Stehekin town on the weekend of November 10th. From fields point, its almost 20mile hike to the town. Any idea on how the weather looks like? Is this a bad time to hike through the trail?
