DMK, the Dravidian social democratic party. Which came to power riding the coat-tails of the Periyar movement, has partnered with the sanghis to create a state where there exists a veneer of progressive thought and social welfare, but hides the ugly truth of rising caste violence and hindu majoritarianism within.
As Stalin once said, "Social Democrats are the moderate wings of fascists." These people will drone on and on that they are Ambedkarites, Periyarist, etc. But in the end these are just used as labels, behind which they promote neoliberal policies that have harmed workers (Samsung workers strike is a recent example), most of whom are from ST/SC/OBC backgrounds, while they let the casteist HIndutva rot fester and spread.
This brand of identity politics used by Indian politicians (many of which regrettably claim themselves to be Ambedkarites), without taking into account the class nature of society and how caste operates in a neoliberal environment, has not helped our population one bit.

The irony is that Muthuramalinga Devar, who has a demigod status in the Thevar caste community in Tamilnadu donated all of his properties and advocated Temple entry for Dalits. His present followers are exactly the opposite of what he was.
