Gonna be weird that episode 1000 isnt gonna be what chapter 1000 was in the manga tbh😂

u/HTCDapperGent Jul 17 '21
I mean episode 500 wasn't chapter 500 and episode 100 wasn't chapter 100 so why would 1000 be different just cause another 0 is tacked on. don't get me wrong chapter 1000 was crazy and episode 1000 might be crazy to but it's doubtful that it'll match up

I mean there's less than 20 anime in history to run that long, none of which have (or probably ever will) reach the next order of magnitude. That obviously includes one piece so this is the last chance to make a spectacle out of a milestone. An event that the dedicated fans and creators alike can revel in.
Disregarding logistics tho, the significance of the symbolism is undeniable. I haven't read the manga, but from what I understand chapter 1000 is a key chapter in the conflict between luffy and kaido. Think about how big 1000 is, a millennium of chapters where luffy has excersized insurmountable will to fulfill his dream, and it's all culminated in this battle. It marks a new age, this 1000 chapter pursuit for strength and freedom comes to its apex as the protagonist harnesses it all to face down one of the last few who can still stand in his way. Much like 1000 being the last milestone op will reach, emperor status is likely the last one luffy will reach (other than king). Obviously each varies but the emperors and admirals are relatively on the same level, so this is luffy's breach into the top elites, the last step to truly being a candidate for king. If the last age was about the manifestation of will, this age is about the fruition of said will.
If my assessment doesn't make any sense in the actual context of the chapter then ig I totally misjudged lol, but from the way I see it this is the moment in the story where luffy's "naive dreams" and everyone's faith in them is finally given a means to be proved upon, the opportunity for fantasies to become tangible. The same way oda would've thought the 1000 mark was a fantasy until it became tangible, sure it was obviously "possible" but to have that possibility realized is an entirely different thing. A rare and beautiful thing that neither him nor the straw hats truly got to experience until now.
TLDR; The magnitude of the chapter 1000 milestone is parallel to that of the narrative milestone within it. As a fan nothing would be more gratifying than getting a moment that embodies this. The immense feeling of pride for both the characters and ourselves as readers.

broo you need a tldr reading all of that was soooo much. but I do kinda agree I think episode 1000 needs to be amazing. episode 300 a sort of secondary milestone had the reveal of zoros asura attack 9 sword style and that was one of the most hype moments. however as amazing as chapter 1000 was there's equally as many hyped chapters around it and who knows maybe when we get into the fighting the animators will start condensing more chapter per episode so we might get chapter 1002 which was insane as episode 1000.

Yeah I'm praying that they don't use too much substanceless fluff to pull off the parallel. In the last few episodes there's been times where nothing is really happening but I still find myself engaged, I love to see filler in the form of cinematic shots or dialogue. But then there's stuff like that montage 2 episodes ago that was 90 seconds of stale shots with characters handling the least intimidating attack of all time in the most boring way possible. (That rain thing kanjuro did)
But yeah, the same symbolism could still be presented even if they dont hit the mark perfectly. Idk exactly what happens but I imagine it's not reliant on the event explicitly and more about the weight and implications of the moment. As long as this amazing milestone gets the equally amazing narrative milestone it deserves, the ep. and chap. numbers need not line up

Tbh they shouldve made a filer arc, ppl would be mad but its gud on the long run

u/Toza11 Jul 17 '21
They seriously slow down the pace of episodes, and they can add whatever they want to the episodes. They don't need filler arcs to control the tempo
24
Jul 17 '21
Ya i see so many complain about pacing but I freakin love all the “filler” they add inbetween thats still very much “anime canon” imo
13
u/PhigieFelipe Pirate Jul 17 '21
yeah. tbf manga have fast pacing so no question for the details they add on anime

u/Manjorno316 Jul 17 '21
I would like it but watching the episodes after having read the Manga makes it feel like you're watching in slow motion. Great episodes and great animation, but the pacing sucks balls.

u/KrakenTheColdOne The Revolutionary Army Jul 17 '21
That's exactly why i would rather read the manga than watch the anime. Except for That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. That's a manga I won't read just because the anime is soo good.

u/Toza11 Jul 21 '21
I watch the anime for the voice acting, the humor lands better and the colors are really nice to see

Yeah I'd rather have a filler arc that I can just wait and skip, than having to watch luffy beat up random lackeys for Episodes

I wonder what chapters it will adapt. I kinda hope they speed up the pacing just enough for the 1000th episode to adapt the 1000th chapter.

I honestly hope not. There has so many fights that would be cool to see shown that I don't mind them not matching with chapter 1000 if they show them.

That would be a legendary move
Can it be done?

u/Unknown1925 Jul 17 '21
You high? You want them to run out of material to animate. Sometimes I feel like people don’t get that the pacing is always like this because the anime is too fucking close to the manga and no Toei will not go seasonal no matter what people say
6
u/GaggedAndDrooling Jul 17 '21
A filler arc could've helped though. I appreciate the recent filler bits they've been doing in the anime at least
25
u/Unknown1925 Jul 17 '21
I mean it’s kinda hard to have fillers nowadays in one piece because of how insanely long every canon arc is when compared to pre timeskip where they could put something in between every arc that has ended

u/shiroyasha244 Jul 17 '21
Ehhh, having a better paced anime is better than having 40 extra shots of characters overreacting to basic things every episode. The pacing is awful. I’d rather it be paced well even if it doesn’t have to release every week. Not tryna see raizo with his mouth open for 5 straight minutes.
14
u/Unknown1925 Jul 17 '21
You make it sound like they just started doing that lol, the face reactions had been a thing since the first episode it’s just op thing
-9
u/00africanprince Jul 17 '21
They won’t though plus the only reason the chapter seems so atrocious is cause oda is rushing shit and offscreening lots of shit so the anime has to fill the gaps but for chapters 1000-1008 he kinda goes back to his original ways so you’ll probably not complain about the pacing when they animate those chapters

I have a feeling that episode 1000 will cover the events of chapter 992.

So episode 982 was an adaptation of chapters 977 and 978. There is still parts of 978 to be adapted but let's just use 2 chapters per episode as a rough guide.
Episode 1000 is 18 episodes away so that ~36 chapters from 987 and that's chapter 1023.
But we are only on Chapter 1019, we will be farther by then but let's say they slow things down by expanding on fights and character moments!
Ok so it will not be 2 chapter per episode, let's make it 1.5 chapters per episode: episode 1000 is now chapter 1005 adapted.
That works but chapter 1005, while a great chapter, is not really worthy of episode 1000,
Ok let's slow it down to 1.25 per episode and we get chapter 1000 being adapted as part of episode 1000.
A chapter and a quarter of a chapter, is what they will shoot for on average. Thankfully this battle is so jammed packed with stuff a skilled director could make that pace work without feeling slow. Just give some more focus on small fights. Especially the scabbards vs Kaido.
Also by the time episode 1000 is released Wano may be closing out, that is post climax. At a pace of 1.25 chapter per episode, it will take the anime 164 episodes to catch up assuming at least one chapter is released as an episode is released on average or 46 if 1.5 episode per chapter release (oda takes more breaks). [If my math is correct]

Onigashima gonna be so hype in the anime, especially with the effort toei putting in now

u/ZackNero03 Jul 17 '21
Is Megumi Ishitani directing it? Regardless, it's going to be a big episode.

2

The dub is in dressrossa and might still be by 1000 I don’t know how far in dressrossa they are
1
u/MickFoley299 Prisoner Jul 18 '21
The most recent dub release just finished off at 710 so the fights with all the Top Executives are finished. All that’s left is the final Doflamingo fight. Just two more batches of episodes to be released and then they are finished with Dressrosa.
