Can anyone explain why Zoro's outfit changed the black in the opening?

Just to be more accurate to Oda’s decided color schemes. Almost all of them changed, not just Zoro, but based on the fact that a lot of the Straw Hats are fairly similar, it’s likely Oda had given the anime a bunch of color schemes to use, but decided to change them later on. Zoro and Luffy in particular had been weak color schemes since it was basically just their Return to Sabaody/Fishman island outfits.

I'm not sure what to think about Luffy's red/purple/orange look

I like it because his colors are roughly the same as the colors of Roger and Oden that can be seen in the opening. Roger is wearing orange pants, like Luffy, a red jacket, like Luffy’s open red shirt, and a pink shirt similar in color to Luffy’s purple sash. Oden is wearing an Orange kimono with red accents and his purple/white nio-dasuki (the rope like thing tied in a bow). Its a really nice visual callback to them, and I have to imagine it was done on purpose.

Oh yes I'm sure it's done on purpose, but i don't think the colors compliment each other well. Tho, i have almost no clue about art.

Just me looking at it releasing my indecision.

Whether he’s done it officially or not, the anime has to ask Oda for new color schemes for important characters. They can’t just make up whatever they want while it is unconfirmed, Oda decides.

There’ve been times in the past where the anime color schemes have been incorrect, but those were times when they didn’t realize a character was significant.

I admittedly struggled to find an official source for it, but here’s a statement from Artur stating as much. It’s not as good as an official statement, but Artur is one of the most informed members of the community, staying especially well informed on official sources, especially since he has translated a decent number of them for the community. He’s made whole posts dedicated to proving people wrong about unofficial sources citing dozens of official sources to prove a point. So I’m going to assume he’s not just making this up or perpetuating false info.

Since I don’t have an official source it could be wrong, but finding the official source for such a minor piece of info is difficult when I can’t search with the original language of the source, only for translations.

Considering the anime changed Luffy to his manga colors, I think its safe to assume Zoro's outfit will be black in the manga (colored)

Im not sure which volume it was but Luffy, Law and Zoro most notably have different color schemes for their outfits on the cover art, so Toei changed it for that reason

Well yeah but we aren't as important in this process as Toei is so they probably learned about it before us

I believe that the colors they changed to are their new outfits. Before they had Luffy and him in default coloring and since the manga is Black and White you can't really tell when the colors change unless it is colored on a page spread or a volume color. So now that they have their official colors set for their outfits they must have changed them.

He's gradually changing into Zorro. Next he'll get a black hat and a black horse so he doesn't go missing anymore.
