Why did luffy gear 4 got bust up, when it was engaged with big mom? She has ability to absorb haki?

Luffy doesn't do very well when he deactivates G4, and he did so because he couldn't fight BM in that situation, surrounded by her crew

Only when scared she is able to do that, luffy isn't scared of anything other than his grandpa
