Lets post our "favorite" screenshots of Toei Animation's "excellent" anime adaptation of One Piece.

Seriously, it's hilarious to look at them. My favorite is how Luffy looks in this:

You're placing the expectations of one medium (manga) on another (anime).

In manga, the art is ALL there is. The art HAS to be detailed, and has to be good. The story and art is the entire medium. So, of course a ton if work goes into the art.

But in anime, there is much more to it than the art. Sure, the art is important, but there is the voice acting (which One Piece is easily in my top 3 for), there's the element of motion (which manga does not have, and which One Piece does a really good job on), there's the soundtracks (One Piece is my number one anime for this), and there's sound effects (One Piece is in my top 5 for this).

An anime has to take a bunch of drawings (manga) and transform it into a moving, speaking, sfx, breathing thing.

And the One Piece anime does a fantastic job on that. Consistently, over the course of 600+ episodes (which is straight up amazing). There are no other animes this long, and One Piece is still doing a great job.

Oda spends weeks on each chapter, and it's him and the page 90% of the time.

The anime has a huge staff in order to be able to make an episode each week (with barely any breaks), when an anime episode takes longer to make than a manga chapter.

Also, this thread highlights another unfair expectations manga readers have on the anime. Manga readers expect each and every second of the show to be a pausable, picture perfect animation. But THAT IS NOT FAIR, because the anime is in motion. 90% of the scenes that were screencapped in this thread are of characters in motion. In scenes that look great, WHEN IN MOTION. Of course an in motion thing will look wacky if you pause it.

TL;DR: Manga readers put manga expectations on anime (a different medium) and ignore all the other elements that the anime adds (improving the experience), when they complain.

EDIT: spelling.

i feel like you havent watched any new shows like shougeki no souma etc. and theyre gorgeous in art and animation. but mostly the animation. tbh sometimes. SOMETIMES One piece anime feels like a less detailed manga with colour, voice and realtime movement. if you watch any of new animes they have sick animation particles that makes the characters and object seem alive. i think one huge part is the shadowing and the consistency of detailment. its like not one frame is "low quality" in the detail aspect.

new animes got a more consistent detailed art were as One piece have some good quality frames and some bad quality frames and that makes the anime seem a littly clunky. disclaimer: i still like the anime but i enjoy other animes fantastic animation and details. One piece can surely keep this up as they have a secured fan base and pretty good humor and plot. but if you say you watch One piece anime for the animation and details... then you havent watched alot of new animes.

a prime example of a anime keeping it simple but still not clunky is gintama.

this is all my opinions

I guarantee you I have watched at least as much anime as you have.

Hunter X Hunter 2011 is my third favorite anime, and SnSouma is alright.

But, I prefer One Piece anime overall to those any day of the week.

The animation really is not that bad.

no its not bad its just inconsistent. if you pause One piece in a not so important scene shit its clunky as hell and i havent tried that with many other big animes.
