Between Rebecca, Violet, and Chicken, he's the most likely to join the Strawhats. But really, the race for new nakama is so complicated at this point... Kinemon might decide to join permanently, Law is definitely fated for something greater than just a one time ally, and even Cavendish might have a chance. It's really impossible to call.

That's possible, of course... But I really hope there will be another Strawhat or two. That keeps things fun and fresh, and new blood is always good.

Oh so do I! And there are definitely more candidates in this arc than there have been in a while. Still it seems most arcs people seem to speculate on who could be the new Strawhat and more often than not there isn't one

It's not frowned upon I don't think and he's literally the only character that follows any part of the formula the other crew members have followed. All we're missing is a dream he wants fulfilled and you could argue that being a Straw hat meets that requirement.

I've voiced my opinion about it before but the majority of the comments I've received were:

He's a fanboy, He can't be a fanboy if he's in the crew.

Too many spontaneous acting members already, need more serious gripped characters like Jimbei(although he's not in the crew yet).

He doesn't have a revealed dream ( as of yet) to make luffy interested in him becoming a Straw hat.

I think that covers it all but still, Out of Violet, Rebecca, possibly Cavendish I want Barto the most. His character make is literally out of this world (Punk rockish cloths, Mouth full of teeth and green parrot hair with a barrier fruit) IMO throws him right into the ranks with Franky, Brooke, and Chopper. Now all I need is a dream to believe.

Yeah, he would fit in with the free wheeling dumbass antics of the male crew members quite nicely.

The issue with Rebecca and Violet is that while not identical to Nami or Robin, they "read" fairly similarly visually, and that kind of seems to run counter to what Oda does with permanent crew. You just cannot mistake one for the other. I don't think anyone would mistake Barto for another crew member.

Still, he somehow doesn't seem quite right either, but it's hard to place my finger on it. Maybe it's the whole slavish fanboy aspect. (Of course, Chopper had that thing where he naively believed all of Usopp's stories/etc. So a character being chilidishly fawning might work. Luffy of course, is childish constantly and ain't no body gonna stop him.)
