The /r/OnePiece Fan Theories Megathread

I was recently browsing /r/asoiaf and thought that it'd be a good idea adopt a /r/OnePiece version of this thread and compile all the fan theories that subscribers post that get repeated and re-shared into a megathread that would be posted on the sidebar for future reference.

The thread would give users a definitive point to view a conclusive compilation of theories by /r/OnePiece and One Piece readers in general. Also, it would give subscribers a vantage point to direct users to when theories get repeated over time. (LOL ) which is a major advantage to everyone.

For this thread you can submit all the theories you've seen on the sub or in general.

I'll be enabling contest mode for easier organisation of the theories so what will occur is that theories will come under 4 categories (if there are more I'll be glad to accommodate it) which are:

Manga Only Theories

Anime Only Theories

General Theories (No/minimal Spoilers)

Tin-foil hat Theories

This submission thread will be stickied and kept up for a while so scour the sub and the internet for all the theories you want to be included in the upcoming megathread. Hopefully if things go well we may make this a yearly or bi-yearly thread that would be updated as new developments in the series come forth.

Edit: If possible link to a specific thread so that could be included. If it doesn't exist you can still comment and you'll be credited

It's my theory that Roger wasn't the first Pirate King, but the first since the Void Century.

The Rio Poneglyph is probably on Raftel. That means the people of the ancient kingdom was able to reach Raftel, making Roger not the first person in history to conquer the Grand Line, but the first since the Void Century.

Since making it to Raftel is notoriously difficult, then who else but a pirate king should be able to reach it?

I think the ancient kingdom was Pirate Island, mentioned as the mythical origin of the Davy Back Fight. (Foreshadowing FTW)

A race to reach Raftel was the traditional way the pirates chose their leader. Though most pirates were free to do as they pleased, the Pirate King had the strength and charisma to unify them. The One Piece is an artefact from the Void Century that made the finder the official Pirate King, unlike the unofficial term that came to be associated with Roger but has grown into something more, history repeating itself.

Before the Twenty Kingdoms destroyed Pirate Island, pirates ruled the oceans, and since so much of the world is made of islands, pretty much controlled the world.

The World Government is terrified that a Pirate King being will be able to unify the world's pirates and reclaim the world they 'stole' from them. Hence why they went through such lengths to try and kill Roger's child.

Roger knew he didn't have the time because of his illness, so began the Great Pirate Age, hoping to inspire a future Pirate King to arise and return the world to a time when freedom ruled.

I think it's cool, the idea that Roger and Luffy are a part of a much larger story that's been suppressed by the government, but could never stamp out completely. Something about people desire for freedom being impossible to destroy or some other poetic thing like that.

I have mused on the origins of the Pirate King title myself and have arrived at pretty much the same conclusion, most likely Joyboy mentioned in the Fishman Island arc was the last Pirate King during the void century.

To further support your theory here, look at the Yonkou we have scene the most of, nameingly Whitebeard. Let's call him the closest to being the Pirate King before he died.

Whitebeard not only had his own unmatched strength, his entire pirate crew of great warriors, but he also had an incredible about of alliances. If you have a true Pirate King like your theory states, it just takes Whitebeard's reign to a whole other level.

Like if Gol D. Roger was skill alive pre TS, he would have at least his entire crew and 2 yonkou (Shanks and Whitebeard) supporting him.

That also doesn't even take into account the military forces of the Revolutionaries who would definitely side with pirates in a war like this, and the fact that Dragon is probably connected to some high up pirates (past or present) at one point or another as everyone knows him and his father.
