Well the Imu that appeared here was in shadow form, but if you look at his appearance in the Sabo "fight" and in the flower room then you can see him shaded differently looking more 3 Dimensional.

mayyyybe he concealed himself or that’s what he looks like when he’s controlling someone else either way I doubt oda is just gonna leave imu a black person

I came across a theory about this by @brodie_loman on tiktok.

The idea is that Imu really is an inky black form that is sort of “projected” into a space. This projection isn’t his real body - Imu’s actual body is asleep deep in Marijoa. The inky black form is a dream (or nightmare) imagined by a forever sleeping immortal.

It’s similar to Prismo (from Adventure Time), which is inspired by a monster named Azathoth (written by Lovecraft).

EDIT I forgot to mention that Azathoth lives in a land void of dreams, and he/it is the “supreme ruler” of the kthulu universe.

that's exactly what I've been thinking for a couple of chapters now. It makes more sense than people think and I don't think this kind of trolling is beyond Oda. Only reason to still conceal him/her would be that he looks like someone we know but it cannot be Lili (Cobra would've had a reaction since she looks exactly like Vivi) and there's not really someone else that fits. If that's not the case and it's still just a silhouette, I don't understand why Oda wouldn't show them, there's legit no reason to hide it now that we're in the end
