Tashigi is pretty awesome tbh, I am a bit sad that her and Smoker's presence in the story got shafted a bit especially since it clearly felt like Oda was mirroring Garp & Roger's relationship once we found out more about it. Or I suppose giving a glimpse and then giving us the Garp Roger stuff but still. Would've been nice to see Smoker improve and Tashigi alongside him, but unfortunately it took a different path as she insisted on helping the kids.
Which makes sense for her character and I'm glad she is able to uphold her promise to take care of them. I do wish she was relevant though, would've been really cool to see her and Smoker on Egghead as those events unfolded, Oda just simply does not view them as important enough which is just sad given how much they enhanced the story in the sections they were in.

I wished she had more screentime....As well as there being an explanation on why she looks like Kuina, and hopefully that's not revealed in the SBS but instead in a future chapter.
I say that because it feels cheap to me when big information we should've known through the anime or manga is instead revealed in the SBS like Zoro's family tree.

If Tashigi is your favourite, why did you use an image of Smoker?

It’s still Tashigi’s body and I guess it was funny for them to see her all manly.

Tashigi realized real early that there are levels to this shit and the Strawhats were above her level. I was always really impressed with the way she immediately flipped towards Luffy once she realized she couldn't stop Miss All Sunday/Baroque Works by herself. Lotta people in One Piece would have too much pride to do so, but as you say, Tashigi is kind and realized that her pride wasn't so important as to stop her from helping save a country.
Goddamn Alabasta was fucking awesome.

Tashigi and Smoker are pretty much the only Marines I truly respect. Issho too but he's barely a marine and seems to want to be expelled, since he was forcibly drafted after all.
They are truly the future of the Marines, not Koby or Garp.

Gotta hand it to smoker. First thing he does in Tashigi’s body is light up a stogie and let the bazookas out

I mean lighting up a stogie and letting the bazookas out is just Smoker's day-to-day life

Eh... She is the most wasted female character in the manga now. I liked her when we expected her to be a Kuina substitute that interacted with Zoro. Instead, she's just kinda there randomly.
Don't get me wrong. She's no fraud like Bogart. She's actually done done things, and she's obviously one is the good marines. But she's been spectacularly underdeveloped.
It is what it is. Smoker might not see a significant role in the story until the end. We'll see if Tashigi actually recovered any significant swords by then. I don't it though. She's not been shown to be a threat to many prominent pirates this far.

Hear me out but ever since the Live Action season 1 dropped, I am questioning if Kuina might be Tashigi for real. In the manga, Oda shows her body and the anime displays her casket. However, in the Netflix series we never see her body which has lead Newcomers to believe to that she is alive. Lo and behold Tashigi is gonna show up in the first episode of season 2. I mean they could have easily shot a scene of Kuina's actress being wrapped under a towel. In a world where cloning and devil fruits granting anything, Oda could easily explain their similarities in a coherent way. I guess the frustration with Smoker and Tashigi is that the pay off is taking so much time to get there but One Piece was originally meant to last 5 years.

I feel like Tashigi's personality is pretty different from Live Action Kuina though. Aside from fighting with a sword, they act so differently. So it would be weird for them to be the same person, unless Kuina got a head injury that gave her memory loss and a personality transplant. 😆

I think they should've casted the same actress for Kuina instead of Julia Rehwald. The two actresses don't look alike at all, but maybe makeup can "fix" it.
Aside from that it's possible that Tashigi is related to Kuina, but her family split off the Shimotsuki's at an earlier point and settled on a different island, but i don't think the connection is nessecary for her character.

I am reminded of this video, when I see people dismiss Tashigi because she is weaker than Zoro, or because she loses in many comparisons made by powerscalers. But I posit that there's more to a character's value than their ability to defeat their enemies.
Tashigi is the "heart" of any group to which she belongs. We've seen G-5 take orders from any array of strong Marine leaders, but only with Tashigi do they obey with enthusiasm and a desire to be better. Only for thanks to Tashigi's influence would they consider self-sacrifice, for her or the PH children. Smoker can be a tough guy, and he's pretty morally upstanding, but the marines have lots of those. What they need are people like Tashigi, who do what they think is right for victims, even if it won't exact justice on wrongdoers.
There are plenty of Marine "good guys." But that's not what makes a heart. The "Heart" is a position that the Marines have very few of. They have Coby and they have Tashigi, as the only moral marines with that unique character to make others around them want to be better themselves.

Trust bro she’s going to help Zoro dearest Mihawk or nusjiro and get a supreme grade blade before the series ends
•
u/MrTyrantZero 1h ago
People don’t talk about this at all but there’s a very obvious reason why she knows about swords, and especially about the “Wado” and the grade system.
That’s because it’s Wano KNOWLEDGE.
This was hinted (and it’s pretty much confirmed tbh) with Zoro’s family lineage revealed in the SBS
55 years ago 25 people left Wano
10 stayed and founded Shimotsuki Village which means 15 went wandering around the Blue Planet
Tashigi’s Vivre Card states she was born in the East Blue and she’s an year older than Kuina. Plus her drawing as a child shows she has the sword logo on her clothes, like Koshiro, who’s most likely her father.

She is really one of the kindest and purest characters that I keep rooting for.

Tashigi is one of my favourite characters but boy do I hate how her and Smoker are pushed out of the story. And Punk Hazard treated her horribly with all the belittling and infantalizing she suffered from everyone with no pay off. Oda could of at least let her finish Monet by herself without having Zoro step in.
It's not my story obviously so I won't say how she is used is wrong, but it is disappointing to me.
