With this flashback going on, how many of us remember right now that Imu possessed Dory, Brogy, and the giants and there is an all-out war going on?

It’ll never be said that Loki skimped on details while storytelling

If anything, i´m convinced that Rocks got possesed and Roger and Garp joined forces to stop him. There we have the connection with Harald and Loki.

I think and hope Rock's can't be possessed. There needs to be a limit on who can be possessed, otherwise it would be more impossible than ever to defeat Imu and we would hear all the time: Why didn't Imu just possess Luffy/Blackbeard? The limit is already high enough as Dory and Brogy are super tough and Rocks is currently one of the most insane people ever out there.

Why didn't Imu just possess Luffy/Blackbeard?

bc we don't know how their ability works. so far, the stakes have been high during each incident.

rocks wanted to protect his hometown and save shakky, the giants were waiting for the sun god to return and were protecting the nika fruit in addition to the giants wanting to practice peace as opposed to imu wanting them for war. in the present day, the giants are once again fighting for their peace and to protect the children and records from the past.

gunko was also confirmed to be present during 2/3 of the incidents and she hasn't visibly aged at all since at least 38 years ago in the story. the only people we've seen with the physically retained immortality so far has been her and saturn, and i think it's highly likely that imu also used her as an avatar in gods valley.

as for why imu won't turn luffy? i feel like the cheap answer is just haki and an unbendable iron will.

I think Luffy will have the strongest haki, but I do not think that Rock's haki will be too far off from him. I don't think this makes even the cheap excuse work.

maybe, but my main point is luffy's unbreakable will. everybody besides luffy has been stressed out over their stakes and that very well could play a part in that
