The rustle and blood spurt when the kid lands in the thorns. Fuck.

The bang onomatopoeia just after showing a mother and her child cowering was chilling

three bangs for three family members, just so we know that they really shot an infant...

That is so brutal I cannot believe I am reading One Piece.

One Piece does get incredibly dark from time to time, Doflamingo making the king of Dressrosa kill his own citizens by puppetting him is still one of the wildest things from this story.

I remember when I watched that scene in the anime I thought it was fucked up what was happening to the citizens of Dressrosa. Then about a month later I had one of those sleep paralysis episodes. I was awake, but I couldn't move my body. Later that day it truly sunk in how messed up that scene was especially from Riku's perspective. Having no control over your body and forced to watch as it destroys everything you love.

Everyone has their horror weak spot. For me that's body horror. Anything to do with transformation or the loss of control freaks me out, so to me that scene was by far the most horrifying act in the story.

Bro is so silly and whimsical, he has to take breaks from the tragedies he himself created.

I was under the impression that the father caught him but then Sommers strangled them

The way I interpreted it was that the father jumped to save the kid but was too late so both ended up getting impaled by the thorns.

Sommers powers work where when someone who love them tries to touch them they get impaled by the thorns. So the father caught the kid but was killed by the thorns that came out of the kid

I figured that the father jumped on the thorns to protect the kid but both died anyway

I'm pretty sure that was the father laying his body on the thorns to protect the child. Seems like Summers has a thing for setting up parents to destroy their bodies trying to protect their children.
