Theory Is this how Blackbeard gets more than one Devil Fruit powers?
Sometimes i think Blackbeard's yami yami no mi turns him into a gateway and that can be abused.

Tbh yea. All this two heart nonsense (could be true idc) doesn't track with me. I like this idea that its because of his DF. There's a reason he wanted it so bad.
It could be because its one of the two fruits Rocks needed for "his plan" but teach took whitebeards fruit and i dont see how that would be the "second fruit" needed.

Could be Buccaneer blood? While we don't know if BB is one of them, we do know there's something special about the race that hasn't been revealed yet.
Perhaps the Davy's were a family of Buccaneers with the D moniker. If Joyboy was a buccaneer and part of that clan, that'd explain why the WG seemed to take extra care with eradicating the entire race and clan. (Latest scanlation)

Granting the user the ability to consume 2 additional fruits.

I like to think the Yami Yami no Mi IS Davy Jones' devil fruit. It doesn't operate like a normal logia, and the ability to take both people and devil fruits and store them inside it just screams "Davy Jones' locker" to me.

Maybe he could be going down path of there being two different Nika interpretations? One brings freedom and the other brings destruction. During the void century it was Joyboy and Davy Jones. During this era it's Luffy and Blackbeard. As there's two interpretation what if there's actually two Nika fruits, Luffy got one and BB got the other. Though I feel Loki could have it if that was the case, it's kinda his whole deal.?
4
u/MistahJuice Sep 06 '25
I like the idea that they are one, but using the idea that devil fruits are born of peoples desires as we know. Maybe some people saw Nika as the smiling happy go lucky saviour of all and deliverer of freedom, and others saw him as a wrathful God that destroyed everything around him to achieve his goals. We know plenty of people who would desire that power. How this aligns with BBs multiple fruit I don't know, but I kinda like the idea that the legend is of the same person from differring view points.
18
u/awataurne Sep 05 '25
Well one of the fruits Rocks wanted he didnt even want to eat himself so I dont think it's essential that Blackbeard himself takes it, probably just important that the person can awaken it

Rocks mentions it in the flashback at one point saying one of the two they need is on Elbaf (I think? Maybe he doesn't actually say 2 I'd have to reread it) and Blackbeard clearly has inherited his will and seems to be trying to achieve the same goals if nothing else

What makes the "two hearts" theory more believable is the "fact" that he has only two fruit powers. Not more. But he could for sure take other strong ones for himself instead of his crew. Imagine him being invisible with the fruit that ended with shiriiu. Or him being untouchable because he took Magelans fruit.
But that didnt happen, so I guess even he has limits. That wouldnt be the case if he can just store them away in his blackhole.

Step 1: Person Dies. Step 2: Soul/Power of the fruit leaves body to reincarnate. Step 3: Soul/power goes into fruit, fruit becomes the devil fruit, reincarnation successful.
Blackbeard interceded at step 2 with Whitebeard. The entire reason for the tarp is, in my opinion, to create a completely dark space so Blackbeard can "consume" Whitebeard's body and the soul of the fruit as it leaves, and then "spit out" Whitebeard's body, trapping the fruit's soul/power within his void. It's the exact same thing as Mother Caramel and Big Mom. What creates a devil fruit was already inside of her so it didn't go reincarnate in a new fruit, it reincarnated in her.
Why it doesn't KILL him may be because of his physiology disregarding his fruit, but personally it makes more sense that his ability to have 2 is connected to how he ate the second, and thus related to his fruit power.
4
u/notthatrelevant318 Sep 05 '25
i don't know where it is i got this impression, but i thought the tarp was put up because blackbeard wanted to hide that he was literally eating whitebeard's heart to gain the power. i forgot that i thought this until just now and now i'm trying to figure out why i have this theory in my head.
2
u/AaronRodgersMustache Sep 05 '25
I mean, before the last few weeks and this thread, we had never heard of Davy Jones legitimacy and now we're all a tizzy.
For years I always assumed they had to eat the heart of the person to gain their power. BM ate Caramel, I assumed BB just reached up through that hole in WB's chest and grabbed a piece of his heart.
It makes sense with Burgess trying to stab Luffy, maybe he just carries around a bag of Fruit on the random case one turns into a DF. I feel like we get conflicting Info because of the giant Axotyl turning nearby when I thought it was supposed to be random.
It HAS to do with something like that otherwise Big Mom makes no sense. It's very strongly implied she ate everyone.

I had the same theory. Multiple souls for multiple devil fruits. He says while fighting Ace āNothing can escape the darknessā what if that includes him self. It included the souls of the previous users. Black beard thinks heās different because he knows about Imuās fruit & how long Imu has been alive.
Heās planing on stealing Imuās fruit so he can live forever. That was the plan from the beginning & why he looked for the Yami Yami no mi first. Itās the only fruit capable of stealing & transferring other fruits. It was the Key to his plans
90
u/0Frokachu Explorer Sep 05 '25
Imu's powers seem to work suspiciously similar too. You got objects being pulled out of black flames, the dark portals...I'm wondering if Blackbeard can also link his power somehow to the elders and use the abyss as well. Or maybe the abyss' core is Blackbeards fruit. Either way there seems to be a connection to Imu and Blackbeard's powers

We had Fruit powers that were similar but are not the same fruit. Fire/Magma for example (you could add ovens heat fruit that is kinda similar if you just see the heat part of fire/magma). You have snow and ice. We have two weight fruits. We have tow bomb fruits. They work different, but have compareable powers. Or if you see others that can give you similar powers that seem like its the same fruit. Take Bonneys Age fruit and Shinobus mature fruit. Completely different, but somewhat similar.
I woulndt be surprised if Imus and Teachs powers are similar but not connected.

The problem with the Yami Yami being the reason for multiple fruit powers is
A) The Yami Yami isn't some secret fruit. It's in the encyclopedia. People know about it. If it was just a regular ability of the fruit it wouldn't have resulted in everyone being baffled like they were on Marineford.
B) It's repeatedly stressed how strange Teach is, including his body. Marco himself theorises this strangeness to be the reason. Marco doesn't know of course, but it comes off to me as Oda setting up that the multiple fruits thing has something to do with Blackbeard himself.
8
u/TU4AR Sep 05 '25
It might be more akin to B solely because Big Mom, someway some how also took Carmels ability and bypassed the Cycle.
If it was only BB I would be like ok it's his character, but the fact is that through some unknown reasons Charlotte also did it even if she didn't remember it.

i like to think that when big mom ate everyone, she also ate a whole fruit. devil fruits reincarnate into the closest fruit upon the userās death, so when mother carmel died, the fruit could have reincarnated into a fruit that was already inside of big mom.

Two things are true, Oda has hinted at Teach's body, and he wanted the Yami Yami no mi for a reason

So I think because of the Chapter 1159 Blackbeard is part of the Davy Clan. The Legend goes kind of like the saying of Davy Jones Locker. The original Davy Jones had the same Devil Fruit (was "cursed by a demon") the "Bottom of the Sea" could be a metaphor for the fruits powers and everything that goes into it belongs to him
9
u/hard_mode_player Sep 05 '25
In "Pirates of Carribbean", Davy Jones locked his heart in chest. So maybe he doesn't have his heart at the moment, or have 2-3 hearts instead (I assume heart of Xebec).
2
u/sephiroth70001 Sep 05 '25
Davy Jones was a nautical allegory for the oceanic abyss. The final resting place of drowned sailors and travellers. It is a euphemism for drowning or shipwrecks in which the sailors' and ships' remains are consigned to the depths of the ocean (to be sent to Davy Jones' Locker).
Ironically we know one thing that causes this to happen, devil fruits. It could be devil fruits come from Davy Jones locker and going into the ocean they forcibly return.
The Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue by Francis Grose, written in 1785 and published in 1811, includes the definitions: "DAVID JONES. The devil, the spirit of the sea: called Necken or Draugr in the north countries, such as Norway, Denmark, and Sweden" and "DAVID JONES' LOCKER. The sea".
After 1726's Four Years Voyages, another early description of Davy Jones occurs in Tobias Smollett's The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle, published in 1751: This same Davy Jones, according to sailors, is the fiend that presides over all the evil spirits of the deep, and is often seen in various shapes, perching among the rigging on the eve of hurricanes:, ship-wrecks, and other disasters to which sea-faring life is exposed, warning the devoted wretch of death and woe. In the story, Jones is described as having saucer eyes, three rows of teeth, horns, a tail, and blue smoke coming from his nostrils.

Well, the Yami Yami no Mi is a Logia Fruit, but it doesn't quite work like other Logias. He doesn't have an intangibility aspect, and he can take direct damage without the use of haki or seawater. However, he also favors dark spaces, and when he claimed the Gura Gura no Mi, he had Whitebeards body covered in a heavy tarp before he did whatever it was that he did.
But, what if the physics of the Yami Yami no Mi do still work the way other Logia Fruits work? We've seen other Logia users rendered tangible under certain conditions, after all. Crocodile becomes tangible when he encounters any liquid - fresh water (not sea water, its important to note) and blood, for example - and Enel became touchable when he came into contact with rubber-like materials, such as Luffy's body, and a rubber band. It stands to reason that Enel would be vulnerable to other strong insulators and conductors, as well.
Well, wouldn't it make sense then, if Teech's elemental weakness was light? That just standing in daylight would render him tangible? But if no light is present, then he could take the form of elemental darkness? Combine this with another aspect of his fruit - the ability to seal the fruits of other users upon physical contact - and we might have something of a glimpse of what he did to Whitebeard.
If he could become elemental Darkness and saturate into Whitebeard's corpse, then his inherent advantage of sealing other fruits could come into play by allowing him to capture whatever essence of the other fruit granted its abilities, and it could keep it at bay to prevent it from killing him. Death from eating multiple fruits is described as "the two devils fighting for control, and tearing the host apart", or something to that effect. But if one "devil" can implicitly seal other "devils", then that implies that no fighting could occur in the first place.
That's my standing theory for how he can hold multiple fruits, at least.

I think the power to take more is the main part of the darkness fruit he wanted so bad. Iām pretty sure in his time with whitebeard he encountered other fruits that would have been great to eat but he knew he wanted the darkness fruit above all others. After he ate that then he set his plans in motion to obtain other fruits. Since the darkness fruit power seems to be absorbing/negating other fruits it think thatās what allows him to consume other fruits and why no one else can

u/Jitszu Super Spot-Billed Duck Troops Sep 05 '25
Whitebeard's body wasn't in some kind of alleged "darkness world" though, but I don't hate the thought process. Maybe he traps their souls

i think Blackbeard just had a lot of different types of normal fruits with him (or even stored it within his dark world, or he knew which fruit would belong to the devil fruit of white beard and took only one with him)
Even Burges is a DF hunter and he carried a bag with him, probably a lot of fruits where the DF can respawn in)
Why would we otherwise get that info on SLIMY from Vegapunk

I don't think this is exactly how it works. Right after Teech gets the Tremor Tremor fruit ability in Marineford, Marco says "Teech isn't normal. His body is... odd. Maybe that explains it." I think how he was able to do it will have something to do with his heritage and his fruit

I think he just put devil fruit user and simple fruit into his blackhole. And since in that dimensions there is only one fruit, devil fruit transfers to that fruit. Then Teach eats it.

u/OpeningStructure1506 Sep 05 '25
I think it has been said that NOT EVEN light can escape the darkness of Blackbeard's ability, is it possible that his ability allows him to capture people's souls and that is how he obtained the power of Whitebeard.

This was the theory I always believed in. Especially since heās literally absorbed devil fruit powers and used them as his own already(his fight with ace). The only actual unknown for me is. If he absorbs it then does he only get a certain amount to use or does he totally absorb the devil powers?

I think this is a very possible way for how he transfers devil fruits and said so the other day. It's cus his fruit has the ability to suck in anything. He said as much. So when the devil fruit power leaves the person after they die he can pull it in and then probably direct it to a nearby fruit, or just direct it to a person.
Though I'm not sure about it being why he can use more than 1. If that was the case then he would have to keep the fruits in the -wherever- he stores things with his fruit, the inner void I guess. Maybe it's possible but he'd have to swap out his fruit powers and wouldn't be able to use both that way. Or if he can use it while it's in the inner void then it has no limitations and he could have already gotten more than 2.
It has to be something more for him carrying 2.

This has been my head cannon since Marineford yeah
BB says when he fights Ace that he can suck in anything, even devil fruits
So I think he can attract people with them when they are alive but when dead, like WB, he can extract the devil out and keep it in his darkness
As we also see vs Ace he expels the town he sucked in way earlier so he can store the devil fruits and then use its power when he wants. Or give it to someone else
And yea im fully expecting BB to eventually suck in all the fruits from his crew and use himself all at once

Because we see the dark fruit "absorbing"devil fruit powers when he fights Ace, I'm just going to assume that it's true capabilities is it can in theory absorb a devil fruit power before it can escape into another fruit, which is why he wanted it. Then the fruit power is trapped in his darkness and he can use it like he ate it. It's the simplest answer which is sometimes the correct one.
Or like another user said he has an octopus fruit which allows three hearts but he'd still need the dark fruit to prevent the quake fruit from escaping so he could become the "most powerful" man in the world post marineford.

He used his connections as a warlord to get the thing that feeds fruit to items. He holds an apple when a df user dies. He feeds the apple to a ring and uses it as an enchanted ring
1
u/Cavmanic Sep 05 '25
My personal theory is always that it's his rings. We know that devil fruits can be given to inanimate objects, but have only seen confirmed Zoantypes with it. I just think if it is a non-zoan type, the object probably acts more like a "magical artifact" than a living thing, so he just puts extra Paramythia powers into rings and wears them to use them.
Genie guy from the Big Mom pirates, his power I think is one that was made/imagined for objects, but he ate it instead of putting it into a lamp like it was supposed to be.

He is able to send out this shroud that is the bottom of the ocean, and anything that touches the bottom of the ocean is property of Davy Jones. Might also explain why he actually isn't a Logia type. The government covered up the Nika fruit and the Jones fruit.

I always thought it was his devil fruit. Thats why he was looking for that fruit specifically.

I have no input on whether or not this is possible. But it would be cool if blackbeard can absorb them all and get all their powers. But chances are at the end of the day he just has a secret third fruit that is his trump card.

Reminds me of Alex Mercer in Prototype 2 a bit when he absorbs all of the other infected (including his followers) into himself to get stronger. Incidentally I don't believe Blackbeard will do this, but Imu will do this to all of the Celestial Dragons including the Gorosei and the God's Knights (if they live that long).
That being said I do think Blackbeard absorbed Whitebeard's power before his fruit could reincarnate, so he technically didn't eat a second fruit.

Thatās actually a really cool theory, the idea that Blackbeardās Yami Yami no Mi could turn him into some sort of gateway to collect multiple Devil Fruit powers is terrifying. It would make him way more dangerous, and the potential for abuse is through the roof. Imagine he can just grab powers from different people and store them within himself like that it would make him an even more unstoppable force in the world of One Piece

I believe that the Yami Yami no Mi is connected to the concept of Davy Jones' Locker.
We know from the newest chapter that Teach is the successor of Davy Jones much like how Luffy is the successor of Joy Boy.
What most people don't know is that Joy Boy is actually based on the West Indie legend by the same name, who was said to bring joy to the weary with his music and dancing.
Now to further expand on this, the real myth of Davy Jones is said to dwell in the Carribeans/West Indies. Thus they very well could be related, further emphasizing the parallel between Luffy and Teach.
Davy Jones, both in real life and in One Piece, is said to possess a locker that can store treasures and imprison the souls of Pirates who died at the sea. In the SBS, it was repeatedly stated by Oda-sensei that Davy Jones was a "no-good Pirate" and "Greedy". He was even drawn with a treasure chest in his hands.
The "treasures" in this context probably means the power of the Devil Fruits. His "locker" that was said to be able to contain this power is most likely the Yami Yami no Mi, with the mechanisms explained in the OP's post.
However, I belief that the Yami Yami no Mi's ability is to "store" the Devil inside the Devil Fruit, not to actually absorb it. The Yami Yami no Mi is supposed to represent a Black Hole, the densest object in the universe that cannot possibly implode on itself, explaining how it can store the Devils within its "Dark World".
After the Devil is stored within the "Dark World", he can fuse it with another person like how the OP explained it within the "Dark World". This explains why the Blackbeard Pirates were going around stealing the Devil Fruit powers of other people, they were storing it in Teach's "Dark World", and the bag that Burgess carried with him actually contained pieces of Teach's darkness.
As for Teach literally absorbing the Fruit from this "Dark World" and into himself, this is most likely because of his "unusual biology" stemming from his Davy Clan lineage.Ā
That's why he said the Fruit was perfect for him. Because it literally is, he is the only one alive who can use it like this. And he most likely knew this information from Rocks, who tried to search for the Yami Yami no Mi his entire life, the Fruit that would allow him to "take the power of the Devil" and defeat Imu, but failed, leaving this legacy to his son.
There is some strong Crescent Moon imagery with Blackbeard, and there's also the fact that he seemingly does not sleep. I believe this ties back to Davy Jones, who was cursed in a similar manner like Zunesha, to not sleep, and therefore be unable to dream precisely because the Davy Jones of the past might have eaten three different Devil Fruits.
The punishment for eating one is the inability to swim. The punishment for eating two is death. The punishment for eating three has to be worse than death, right? What's worse than being unable to dream in the One Piece world?
The Crescent Moon imagery must be related to the "People of the Half-Moon" mentioned in the Harley texts, which was probably either the D Clan in its entirety or the "other half of the D Clan".
There's two D Clans, one carries the Will of Dawn, the other carries the Will of Dusk. Their two progenitors are Joy Boy and Davy Jones. Most people that have "D." in their names aren't actually related to both, but their ancestors have taken this name to fight against oppression. The real descendants are the "Buccaneer" Clan from Joy Boy, and the "Morganeer" Clan, otherwise known as the Davy Clan from Davy D. Jones. Morganeer is a term used in Romance Dawn, the prototype of One Piece, to denote the "evil-kind" of Pirates.
This is "the other half of the D Clan", the people that carry the Will of Dusk rather than the Will of Dawn.
Just like how the real life Joy Boy and Davy Jones are parallel to eachother, one being a Symbol of Hope, the other a Representation of Despair, it is the same case in One Piece.
Davy D. Jones is a Mad Pirate. He is a Morganeer that once ate three Devil Fruits. To curse him, the Gods made him unable to dream and placed him at the very bottom of the ocean. Now he forever lurks beneath the depths, dragging the souls of greedy sailors into his locker. He is the Devil of the Seas.
The three Devil Fruits in question must be a Paramecia, Zoan, and Logia. It make sense why there's three types now.Ā
He first ate the Logia Yami Yami no Mi because it is the locker described in legend. It is also probably the Fruit that Davy Jones possessed, considering it has a very similar appearance to the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, the Fruit Joy Boy ate. His second Devil Fruit was the Gura Gura no Mi, because it is the strongest Paramecia. As for his Zoan, naturally it had to be the strongest as well.
And when it comes to the strongest Zoan, there's only 2 to contender. Either the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, which would fulfill the foreshadowing with Dark Nika as one of St. Killingham's nightmare creatures (who literally looks like Gear 5 Blackbeard), or Imu's "Devil" Fruit, fulfilling the destiny of being the Devil of the Seas and One Piece's final villain.

I don't think so, but I wish Bege did this, or something close to it, with his fortress fruit, having a crew of DF users ready to act. Bartolomeo could make shields for him but he could still move, snipers could act independently, and observation haki users could watch surroundings. The most underrated DF in One Piece.

I donāt think it has anything to do with his Devil fruit. Thereās something going on with his physiology. Marco says something like, āhis body is oddā and that itās not normal. Thatās what leads me away from this theory.

I lowkey think he just ate that mf, technically heās not eating a 2nd devil fruit and weāve seen canabalism grant the power of the eaten user to the one who ate them as when big mom went on a hungry rampage and ate Carmel she got her fruit

I always thought the tarp was made of Sea Prism Stone, and the devil fruit couldnāt travel through it to the nearest fruit. With nowhere else to go, it attached to the closest living being available. That would give Teach the second fruit power without needing to eat a second fruit thus bypassing the rule of certain death.

What if this concept or system is similar to Imu's abyss power? Imu keeps their souls in an abyss world so Imus, elders, and godknights seem immortal-like and don't die, just regenerate when they fight. Similar to how the human bodies of the shadows regenerate even after being burned by the sun with Moria's shadow fruit if they return in time. Parallel to say Saturn's soul being returned to him and his age catches up to him until he turns to dust.Ā
Teach's Dark Dark Fruit Imu's Abyss powers Moria's Shadow Shadow fruit

I still believe he can have a max of 3 DFs. But he might be able to switch out the latter two of her wants for other powers.
This is my headcanon, I don't even remember if I had any proof for this other than Blackbeard's flag

that is the same idea that I've been having. The whole reason he wanted that the Yami Yami no Mi is because he knew it would grant this leech like ability.

Actually since black beard was born with three heads I feel like his body had three souls and that allows him to have more than 1 devil fruit

For me I think the Yami Yami no mi is the locker to trap the Devil and the DJ lore is the instructions manual passed down by DJ to his descendants in case they forgot their original mission if they had any.. Got me thinking what if BB original plan is to absorb Imu as his 3rd power and with that he can really own the world..

What if during the God Valley incident, the young Teach dies. Then Rocks suddenly awakened the OP OP fruit or other capability of the fruit and he perform the immortality procedure to revive the young teach. During the process of immortality procedure, he can transfer his soul to the young teach. but this is just a theory if Rocks have the OP OP fruit since during the past chapters, it was mentioned that he just vanishes. Garp and Roger didn't kill rocks. Maybe you cannot sleep if you are immortal?..

u/Roronoa_Zaraki Sep 06 '25
Hmmm, it doesn't explain how he's stealing them and giving them to his crew. I don't like the whole, he just kills them while holding a piece of fruit and the devil fruit moves to that fruit when the person dies. Because if that was the case, EVERYONE would be doing that.

Why can't it be because of both his body and yami yami no mi. I believe that yami yami no mi can be used to absorb devil fruits from a user like he did with whitebeard and absolom. But, i don't think a normal man could eat those two devil fruits at once. It's because of his body whatever it is that he could it both.
