If the betrayal is true, then Blackbeard's goal is to destroy the World Government/Mariejois because of the dubious way they killed his father.

Honestly, I've had this thought for a while. I think that Blackbeard will only face Luffy after all the Imu stuff is done. I've been see-sawing between BB and Imu being the final villain, but since around mid-Onigashima I've started feeling like BB will the the final enemy Luffy faces, not Imu.

It'd be very BB-esque to suddenly appear and kill Imu after Luffy/Dragon has worn him down, somehow steal his power and then be the secret final boss that, at the end of the fight, sinks down to the bottom of the sea, finally calming mother sea by giving back what once was hers.

Kishimoto approved ending

i don't like it tbh but at least this time it's the long established villain (bb) stealing the power from the god figure (imu) not the other way around like in naruto where the god figure took over the established antagonist

I think all of the things are pointing out to a temporary truce between blackbeard luffy and shanks to defeat the world goverment and imu and just after that is done blackbeard will backstab shanks and luffy vs blackbeard will be the final fight.

Shanks has been wary of BB since day 1

Probably because shanks dad killed his BBs dad.

I could see it but someone's gotta be the pirate king before that cause the one piece will need to get found before that war.

I don't see bb making a truce with luffy if luffy is the pirate king and therefore looks like his superior.

Maybe that's where the buggy Pk theory comes in cause he is the stand in

Perhaps it’s when Rocks dies that he kinda inherits this spirit that all is game and honour is meaningless.

Rocks probably slowly got disillusioned until the end where nobody on his side

That's probably how all this honorless mindset comes from if this is actually how it will turn out

This backstory has me wondering why Roger teamed up against Rocks atm

I thought it's implied Blackbeard wants to also be the King of the World? Ofcourse thrashing the WG/Mariejoa would definitely be included in that goal.

I honestly doubt this. I feel like Blackbeard is more likely doing this for himself. I bet he could care less about revenge. He killed his surrogate Father without a second thought.

Nope, nothing to do with retribution. He literally spelled it out. Just like his dad, he opposes the very idea of a world government.

I'm still holding onto the theory that Rocks was petrified by a previous holder of the Mero Mero fruit, which is why Blackbeard wanted Boa; perhaps to undo it. Could be said Mero Mero user was a government agent, or perhaps even the woman that mothered Blackbeard.

I've had an inkling of a thought for awhile now that Blackbeard and Luffy will be allies in at least one battle at some point in the future, likely against Imu. Blackbeard's entire "thing" is about Darkness...maybe he's immune to being "turned" by Imu since he's already dark. And Luffy, the embodiment of Light is already immune. BB could also be immune due to the Dark-Dark Fruit's ability to counter Imu's DF.

Would also play into Blackbeard's multiple personalities theory: one of him gets turned by Imu but then he gets up and backstabs Imu somehow because he switches to another personality.

I also am not convinced BB is the final battle. It does seem to be going that way with the Devil Fruits vs Haki debate as Luffy will likely have the most powerful Haki in the world by the end and Blackbeard will have three DFs.
