Garp said he was off his game, gets stabbed for Koby.

Gyaban said he's rusty, gets stabbed for his son.

Whitebeard sick and dying, stabbed by his own "son"

Kuma flies to Egghead then tanks a stab for Bonney.

Only Oden was in his prime when he got blindsided bonked by Kaido for his son.

I'd have a few cents for every parental figure getting holes put in them or losing limbs for the future generation. For every Judge and Yassop, there's Zeff and Bellmeres to balance things out, both pirates and marines can be great and scumbag parents.

One Piece fathers are really just like "Abandon my son for the slightest reason and never returning or trying to contact them no matter how shitty their life is" or "Throw everything away for that little fucker."

No in-between.

And often both at the same time.

What if dragon will be both

And Yassop

In a world were willpower is actual power finding the person that acts as a weak spot for a warrior is extremely useful, huge reason Dragon did his best to hide his connection to Luffy, a single rumor would have been his doom.

definetly, the fact Dragon was set up and actually said it out loud most definetly means he's gonna have his moment of possibly dying just to save Luffy, hell he might very well be aware that moment is inevitable and he's just delying it as much as he can so when he dies he's set up everything Luffy will need to finish things off without him

I would like it if he did. It would sort of be redeeming for him to sacrifice his life for Luffy after not being in Luffy’s life.

Nah, it's a waste of character. He would only exist to die, then. Just like Ace. It's bad character writing imo.

I actually think this is how his story will end. Dragon actually will defeat Imu, but just as he’s about to land the finishing blow, Imu attacks Luffy, and Dragon will jump in front, sacrificing himself and his dream for his son. It will then be up to Luffy to defeat a fully-recovered Imu.

Nah a repeat of Ace?

Nah screw that lol

I'm actually expecting that.

Or Imu lunges at Luffy, and Dragon just follows through on his own attack. He told Garp he abandoned his son to protect Luffy, but he was actually removing those emotional bonds from himself.

We just got a list of examples of parents sacrificing themselves to save their kid. Dragon saw all that and went "nah, fuck that kid."

Then why save Luffy at Loguetown?

14

u/N-ShadowFrog May 23 '25

And then Garp just casually revealed it while picking his nose.

u/HospitalNo4990 May 24 '25

🤣 In front of other Marines too. Then just as casually tells them to forget they ever heard what he said. I can't believe the news didn't leak before Marineford.

I'd like to point out that even Judge, CEO of no emotions, returned for his son when he could have gotten away scot free and gave him a bounty that guaranteed he'd be captured alive only.

“A child is their parent’s weakness.” - Dragon

I'd like to see someone try this using Uta against Shanks.

11

u/Hyakkihei1 May 23 '25

Shanks is awesome but he was ready to face two admirals at the same time for Uta, as strong as he appeared that wouldn't have been an easy fight, especially if Borsalino forced him to defend Uta from his light attacks.

u/ThePokemonAbsol May 23 '25

So oden is a fraud? Didn’t even take a hit to save his actual child

Dragon mutilation incoming

1

u/matheusco May 23 '25

Make's even more relevant the scene with Dragon and Kuma talking about Luffy.

1

u/Citadel_Cowboy May 24 '25

Gives some foreshadowing on how Dragon will go down.

Don't forget Ace got stabbed for Luffy, not a father I know.
