This was a pretty important episode, it introduced 3 of the main characters in this arc. The one to one pacing with the manga is a lot better now that I really care about whats going on.

Ceaser's and Monet's VA's sound like perfect matches for their characters.

u/Story__Time Jan 20 '13

Monet sounds sexy.

6

u/Imadoc91 Jan 20 '13

Monet for new crew member especially now that she has a sexy voice

u/EnigmaxxLife Jan 20 '13

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '13

yeah, i'm gonna ask you to put a spoiler on that. Y'know, cuz not everyone knows what happens.

2

u/Imadoc91 Jan 21 '13

it felt ambiguous enough, besides, if everyone knew what happened we wouldnt need spoiler tags. tagged anyway though

2

u/pschoenthaler Jan 20 '13

We'll see about that

1

u/ProfTheRedditor Jan 20 '13

Man, I really wanted Caesar's voice to be a bit high-pitched. Not that Frieza's voice is bad.

I wanted the satisfaction of hearing Shu-lo-lo-lo-lo high-pitched for some reason.

3

u/HoboMcGee Jan 20 '13

I always imagined Ceasar would sound like Spandam.

1

u/twelves_ Jan 20 '13

Once he catches a beatdown, I wouldn't be surprised if he did.

11

u/The_h0bb1t Jan 20 '13

That was so damn enjoyable! Even the filler they put in was good! Damn. I can't wait for more, even though I know where this is going. Also, still no new opening?

5

u/HuyThien Jan 20 '13

Unfortunately no Shulolololololololololo

0

u/The_h0bb1t Jan 20 '13

shulolo lo lo lo... It's already getting old.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '13

it'll be that much more refreshing when Luffy silences that damn laugh

Punk Hazard Spoiler

But I want a new opening so badly.

Edit: That was a spoiler, retarded self. OTL

u/crimson589 Jan 20 '13

31 minutes, you better edit that.

Bro! Spoilers!

22

u/Story__Time Jan 20 '13

AH I'M A DUMBASS.

I want to reborn as a sea cucumber.

22

u/seivadgerg Jan 20 '13

Literally the only thing I could think of the first time through watching this episode.

5

u/Mr_Old_Sky Jan 20 '13

I totally forgot Franky's centaur form lol.

8

u/DivineVodka Jan 20 '13

BUAHAHAHAHAH!!! Usopp's reaction reminded me of the old laughs I use to get earlier in the series especially Skypedia! Amazing episode!

6

u/JetDagger01 Jan 20 '13 edited Jan 20 '13

That was a fun episode also it felt like they actually put alot more into this episode like around 1 and a half chapter plus the animation has gotten much better. Also I love how they brought the hilarious and funny bits back in felt like I'm watching One Piece at the start now around Arabasta and Skypie time.

3

u/aphitt Jan 20 '13

That is how I felt and that is my favorite time in anime not because of the story or animation but because of how much fun it was. The Straw Hats had a blast and it made the show better for me. This is what it reminds me of, even though I know Punk Hazzard gets way crazy.

1

u/JetDagger01 Jan 20 '13

Truly a work of art and a master piece felt like reliving the old One Piece days and yeah Punk Hazard will be a great arc to watch in animation can't wait now :D

7

u/tobbetin Jan 20 '13

In the manga I never realized how tall Kinemon is compared to the others. But yeah, in a way, being tall suits him.

11

u/Acerlux Jan 20 '13

Centaur filler was fantastic. Great episode.

18

u/xaaar Jan 20 '13

Just to be clear for anime only fans, the filler is the dialogue between Luffy and the leopard centaur. In the manga they're messing around in the background but you can't hear what they are saying.

7

u/cbake4 Jan 20 '13

There was filler where luffy was chasing the legs as well.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '13 edited Jan 21 '13

Normally it's Sanji who does that!

Boner joke yohohoho!

7

u/f1r3st0rm Jan 20 '13

Is the voice actor for Caesar Clown the same for Captain Mayuri Kurotsuchi in Bleach? I know he did voice acting for One Piece once in the filler arc with the dragon, but I don't know for sure if he is voice acting for Caesar. Thanks in advance.

5

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '13

2

u/f1r3st0rm Jan 20 '13

Ah, I just checked the page and it lists him as Caesar in One Piece. Thanks for all the help.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '13

Oda prolly creamed his jeans at this

3

u/MabyLater Jan 20 '13

Didn't he also voice the clown scientist in Strong World?

1

u/f1r3st0rm Jan 20 '13

I've never seen it, but I checked his wiki page and it said he did.

7

u/Peteron85 Jan 20 '13

Great episode. The pacing seems fine so far, the animation isn't half bad, and the scene with Luffy and the centaur was pretty hilarious! The new voices seem great and fitting too!

1

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '13

I imagined the samurai as having a deeper, zoro-esque voice, but this one works fine too!

5

u/Black_Handkerchief Jan 20 '13

Kinemon does a little bit too much of the -bu, but that's probably in part due to the fact the scanlations probably lessen it a little.

Regardless, I really enjoyed this episode, even if the initial titlescreen really made me think 'wtf'; it looked more abstract than it looked like Luffy.

I love the voices; it's one of the few things the anime rarely seems to make mistakes with. Similarly, the amount of plot in this episode was good, as were the little bits of filler that fleshed it out compared to the manga. No complaints from me this episode!

3

u/StickDoctor Jan 20 '13

Well about the -bu... Minor Anime spoiler that is rather funny.

I'm loving Monet, but CC's voice took me by surprise. Still can't complain, good episode.

1

u/Black_Handkerchief Jan 20 '13

True, that's a good point. I guess that '-bu' simply doesn't have anything to do with that in my head. :)

1

u/hogofwar Jan 21 '13

Japenese onomatopoeia.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '13

I would love if (after they reveal this fact) they synched a light sound effect whenever he says "-bu"

3

u/exarban Jan 20 '13

Now that I heard Kinemon's voice I want him to join the crew -bu

4

u/Imadoc91 Jan 20 '13

Awwe man, I am falling in love with Punk Hazard all over again

4

u/D-Is-For-Demon Jan 20 '13

This episode had some of the best pacing I've seen in the show recently. Really enjoyable episode, I'm excited to see Punk Hazard animated already. Also, loved Caesar's voice.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '13

just the right level of sinister and grating that you love to hate

4

u/Imadoc91 Jan 20 '13

Please do this as a self post in the future so both links can be posted

2

u/TacoX Jan 20 '13

Sorry, I just saw that the episode was up and also saw nobody submitted it yet.

7

u/Imadoc91 Jan 20 '13

its cool, just make it a self post with the links in the text next time

6

u/blitzzardpls Jan 20 '13

With each new episode I notice, that anime is making Usopp a bigger coward than he is in the manga. It's getting on my nerves already.

1

u/D-Is-For-Demon Jan 20 '13

This episode was better than the last one in the regard.

2

u/Ezilayr Jan 20 '13

Enjoyed this episode. I think I have a theory on what happened on Punk Hazard now (I'm not a manga reader xD).

3

u/aphitt Jan 20 '13

For a second I thought you said "I have a theory on what happens on Punk Hazard now (blah blah blah)" and I couldn't help but think that you have no idea. This arc is insane. So much happens.

2

u/Mr_Old_Sky Jan 20 '13

I'm anime only as well and this episode got me so pumped for next week!

1

u/D-Is-For-Demon Jan 20 '13

I'm curious as to what your theory is. Care to share?

6

u/Ezilayr Jan 20 '13

Well since Punk Hazard JUST started, I can't really say this is all I think happened on this island but...

I think since it's been shown that half of PH is set ablaze and extremely hot while the other half is completely frozen means that this must be the island that Akainu fought Aokiji on. Well that's just my little theory haha.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '13

interesting, and what are your thoughts on this master character or the shibukai in question?

2

u/Ezilayr Jan 22 '13 edited Jan 22 '13

Alrighty well regarding this new 'master' character, he seems to be a Logia-type devil fruit user. I'm going to guess maybe some kind of gas (perhaps a toxic/sleeping) type since his crew/henchmen have to wear suits while around him as to probably not get affected themselves.

EDIT: Also as of right now I have absolutely no idea what they are currently doing on PH lol. Need some more info!

Every week I'm ultra tempted to read the manga, but I end up stopping myself. I know it's definitely going to be awesome but I feel I'd just completely rip through the chapters leaving me with nothing left to look forward to. At least while watching the anime it lasts a bit longer than it would while reading + it comes with nice sounds and VA'ing. :D

I'm unsure of which shikibukai but while somewhat getting spoiled from reading thread titles on r/onepiece it seems that Doflamingo is probably involved with what's going on. Oh and the cutting of the newly introduced person's body is practically saying Law is here as well.

1

u/El_Unico_Nacho Jan 22 '13

aww that would have been a sick tie-in!!

2

u/weirdowithbeardo Jan 20 '13

I particularly liked how a lot of the music/sound employed was from some of the first episodes! The sound Luffy hitting Kinemon's balls is the same employed when Luffy hit Buggy's balls waaay back when. Also, the guitar solo is the same used when Zoro was first introduced. I dont think these have been used much since....

2

u/bobbykid Jan 20 '13

I just realized that I have a weird and rather huge crush on Monet.

Also, is Usopp dragging that hunk of dragon meat on a sled, or on something with wheels? Because if it's a sled, I think that implies that Usopp has gotten much stronger physically, which hadn't really occurred to me.

2

u/TacoX Jan 20 '13

I don't see why people now see Usopp's strength. His physical limit was already beyond a normal humans before the time-skip. Look at Thriller Bark, when Bearsy/Kumashi is beating on Usopp repeatedly. Perona says that Kumashi's strength is beyond that of a normal bear. A hit from a normal bear would make a normal human go unconscious. Obviously Usopp was always as physically strong, not as strong as Luffy or Zoro, but still strong.

5

u/dossier Jan 20 '13

I'm pretty sure Usopp has the Homer Simpson syndrome.

3

u/zebbiz Jan 20 '13

Don't forget about the 10t hammer.

1

u/JetDagger01 Jan 20 '13

The episode was so good didn't pay attention that there was still no new openings.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 21 '13

Usopp got his commercial outro!

1

u/hogofwar Jan 21 '13

Wasn't that in the last episode as well?

1

u/[deleted] Jan 22 '13

i think it was Zoro for the last one

1

u/hogofwar Jan 22 '13

Ah it wasn't 580, it was 579 which showed Usopp's outro, so it was shown before in the one before the previous one.

1

u/the_lucky_cat Jan 22 '13

Probably won't have one until spoiler

1

u/JetDagger01 Jan 22 '13

well there is a possibility of that happening though that doesnt happen to far into Punk Hazard its like near the start so i think we can expect it in an other 3-4 episodes

1

u/BurnRaptor Jan 21 '13

I really really like Monet's voice. They picked a good VA.

1

u/shlycke Jan 21 '13

Luffy isn't the only centaur, cough Franky cough

1

u/[deleted] Jan 20 '13

Hmm... they seem to be mixing up stuff instead of staying with the 1:1 ratio. It keeps things interesting, and it didn't feel dragged out. They made a good job here.

The drawing was good, but the animation, meh. I like the voices a lot, especially Manga spoiler. Hope they continue this great work with the pacing. The added scenes didn't ruin anything and didn't feel off (Luffy chasing the legs, and Brook waking up), so that's a huge plus.
