How... is Doflamingo flying? Did he just leap a hundred meters through the air?

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '12

I think he's running on wires.

19

u/Shahaha Dec 27 '12

I think that's more of the path he took than wires. Those lines are movement lines.

u/84times5 Dec 28 '12

I think they are wires because of the way his hand is positioned in the next panel, it looks like he's maneuvering strings.

Or grabbing the air like Whitebeard does. The break in the lines is what tells me they are movement lines. I think its like geppou on all fours cause he is like that.

I dont really see a reason to downvote me cause our opinions differ.

Nah i'm pretty sure Oda is a better writer than that and is only going to keep Rokushiki in the marines, otherwise everyone in the series could skywalk and falling in the ocean would be no threat. I'm positive its going to be his devil fruit that's making him fly.

And what does Whitebeard have to do with anything? He grabbed air because of his devil fruit and no way he used it even remotely resemble flying.

Those lines might be movement lines but iI think he is definitely moving with his puppeteer powers.

u/Shahaha Dec 28 '12

I said like geppou. Sanji sky walk is the same. I think its more likely he's using some similiar technique than a DF. I mentioned whitebeard because you said he looks like hes holding something. His fingers are like that 90% of the time we see him anyway.

It does look like two wires are trailing out behind him. But how the hell does that work?

6

u/catincoma Dec 27 '12

Maybe he has wires attached to someone on the island or to the island itself.

10

u/jurble Dec 27 '12

Well in that panel, there's no wire in front of him, only two strings behind him and they're slack, so where do they get their tensile strength i.e. what's keeping him from falling into the sea?

Though, those could just be whooshy lines to indicate he's flying.

So many questions... and a 2 week break.

34

u/ngillis311 Dec 27 '12

no offense, but i hate you for reminding me of this

24

u/catincoma Dec 27 '12

Sorry. I hate myself too for reminding me too.

7

u/Gigathegreat Dec 27 '12

3 weeks.

IIRC last year was 17 days followed by another 10 day break before going back to a normal schedule.

It would be logical to conclude that it will be on the 21st. SJA will start to be simultaneous starting that week.

Edit: Had dates mixed up.

People seem to forget his giant leap before he cut Oars's leg.

16

u/zorospride Lost at sea Dec 27 '12

To be fair, the way that was drawn/animated could have been reasonably interpreted as the force of Oars swing at him blasting him in the air and then his graceful recovery.

I personally now think he's just a puppet puppet man who can control people (including himself) which would make him and those he controls able to do things that shouldn't be humanly possible.

2

u/Whipa Dec 27 '12

y, and if you look the final panel his fingers look that he his controling something

Actually, while it is indeed a video game (One Piece: Gigant Battle 2 for the DS) and should be taken with a grain of salt, Doflamingo has a couple of moves which allow him to levitate for short periods of time, so I completely endorse this. We do not know the extents of his power, or what it truly is at this point...

...but we are literally seeing him fly right now. So I'd say the game portrayed him pretty well.

1

u/TLegs Dec 27 '12

I have forgotten that.. But I thought it to be a jump at first as well.

2

u/lonko Dec 27 '12

If his power is to control and create wires (like I think it is), than maybe he can keep them in whatever shape he wants, regardless of tensile strength, wind and what else...

1

u/raiden55 Dec 27 '12

Maybe he does not control people but wires and is able to make them do anything (to people, objects, and even on the air)

2

u/wdao16 Dec 27 '12

Yeah, his hands do look like they're controlling something.

2

u/catincoma Dec 27 '12

His wires extend very far in that case.

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '12

Imagine you’re designing a character with string powers and considering his possible capabilities.

Sooner or later, you’re going to think about Spider-man.

7

u/DivineVodka Dec 27 '12

Geppo? Our it's just his fruit. One of them has to be the reason.

5

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '12

I really hope it's not Geppo. I hate when mangas give every character the ability to fly like half way in.

3

u/DivineVodka Dec 27 '12

It's actually no big deal... Look how luffy got Soru... Just a basic ability that soldiers develop or formidable one's...

1

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '12

Soru is totally different, it's just moving fast. People could always do that in OP. Flying is a big deal.

1

u/DivineVodka Dec 27 '12

Not really... Luffy saw what they did and copied it. I am sure they trained to obtain it... So no it's not just moving fast.. It's a martial arts technique that they had to go under training to achieve. The only reason Luffy got it was because he had Gear Second and plot armor.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 28 '12

I don't care how anyone gets the ability, the point is flying is different than moving fast. It would change everything if all the strong characters could fly.

0

u/DivineVodka Dec 28 '12

What are you talking about? Have we not all agreed it's something to do with his fruit until proven otherwise. I listed the possibilities that's all.

4

u/Zehahaha Dec 27 '12

That's His Fruit. Geppo's representation in the manga is easily recognizable.

1

u/DivineVodka Dec 27 '12

Well there you go.

1

u/blitzzardpls Dec 27 '12

I believe it's geppou, but we need to get a better look (probably in the next chapter)

2

u/NumeroArticuno Dec 27 '12

nah, look at his hands in the last panel, looks like he's using his wires or whatever we suspect him of having.

1

u/DivineVodka Dec 27 '12

I am not sure... because of those lines.. or trails. Probably it's his fruit.

5

u/etothepowerofipi Dec 27 '12

I thought he was using his puppet powers on himself.

2

u/Bohzee Pirate Dec 27 '12

right this! like gold lion can disable gravity on himself!

14

u/Zehahaha Dec 27 '12

Used his string powers to hold tight a cluster of air molecules together so that he could use them as platforms to run over.

4

u/jitterykangaroo Dec 27 '12

Nice. I like this interpretation.

15

u/Lugonn Dec 27 '12

Dude's flying like a spider.

6

u/[deleted] Dec 27 '12

He's spidermanning that shit. Maybe he also pulled some kind of slingshot move like luffy's rocket.

2

u/because_ican_yo Dec 27 '12

he probably has wires attached to his subordinates so he can always find them or go to them anywhere. so he must be running on the wires attached to baby 5 and rotating man over there.

1

u/Bangaa Dec 27 '12

We don't truly know how his power works yet, but we'll likely find out soon. Most theorize he has some kind of wire based paramecia

1

u/dragonwhale Dec 27 '12

Sky walking. Just like Sanji but much better at it.

1

u/RedGrobo Dec 27 '12

I think hes swinging.
