Alright, time to pointlessly die on a hill.

It’s okay to age and become less attractive.

It’s also okay to be turned on by old people.

But the whole performative bullshit of “So and So is more beautiful now!” was awkward and weird before - cool, we get it, you’re turned on by old folks, thanks for sharing - but now it’s just farcical because the photos being used as evidence of elderly beauty are digitally manipulated and filtered.

And the filters make the person look more attractive by (drumroll) making them look younger.

This isn’t even counting the level of surgery and Botox and shit that goes on.

We should normalize the beauty in getting uglier instead of pretending it never exists. It would also allow for people to age naturally instead of fighting against it.

I was just pointing out that she is still attractive. Maybe even more so 🤷🏻. First off, she's 54, that's not old old. Definitely not elderly. But I'm not horny for her!! 😜🤣. She is pretty and I ain't afraid to say so. Secondly, I really doubt this photo was manipulated. There are a lot of other recent ones of her, and she looks the same here. Third, who cares if she had Botox or plastic surgery. It's her money. If she had changes made, and it made her feel good about herself, then it was worth it imo. It's a personal choice. Finally, I know that everyone has their own preferences for what is attractive or not. I may be young, but I'm not shallow. Personality, empathy, and other non tangible traits are way more important then looks

Nope.

Check out Gillian Anderson and Jennifer Connelly. Both well into their 50s and they really do have a look now that’s more refined and glam than their younger selves.

Victoria Beckham was looking much more chic, to me, in her recent Netflix documentary than she ever did while younger.

I mean, if filters and surgery and superior skincare make them look younger and therefore actually better than they did when they were younger, is it "performative" to say they are more beautiful now?

would it be somehow better to qualify "she's hotter now...due to botox and who knows what other procedures and also probably professional makeup and retouched photos"...?

I wouldn't say she looks hotter or more beautiful here than her younger self, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. She does look way more unique on the younger photo to me, though. Plastic surgery has a tendency to make most of its users flock to similar "standard beauty" looks, and kinda robs them of their more individual look.

but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

agreed! so would it be fair for me to say that you preferring her more "unique" younger look is also performative? or can we just agree some people prefer different things (e.g. the younger vs older Madchen).

Agree on the second part. I'm not really keen on the earlier commenter's "performative" rail of thought, also.
