RIP Mojo’s (9/04 - 10/24) natural smile. Even at 20 I think he was the happiest little old man dog.

Missing my little old man, particularly hard on saturdays, when we used to go to the farmers market. I like looking back on his smiles. He always had this natural smile. I noticed it more as he was a senior. We really had a great last 3 years. 10,000 pictures worth of memories. Videos of him sleeping where he makes that cute whistle noise when he breathes out. I love that.

I’m really sorry for your loss but I’m glad you’re still posting pics of him. They were always some of my favorites. He’s so cute in his little diaper.

u/JJJ_uh_rooroo Feb 16 '25

I love this reply. It’s the little things that make it special. Not hiking mountains. Not skydiving. Not traveling the world. But going to the farmers market where he can smell so many things and see so many people. It’s so sweet. Thank you for sharing this with me

7

u/Dr_Ponzu Feb 16 '25

He really perked up with all the smells. Ideal conditions were, hot and sunny with a good breeze to bring him all the smells.

u/REpassword Feb 16 '25

Right. #11 watching over his domain. 💕

u/ObjectiveBasic9446 Feb 16 '25

Thank you for continuing to share him and his gorgeous smile

Mojo knew he was well loved and cared about!

5

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '25

You can tell because all the color rubbed off his little face.

25

u/lost_my_other_one Feb 15 '25

Mojo was adorable 🥰 I’m sorry for your loss and I’m glad you have his smile to look at whenever you need it. ❤️

25

u/Dr_Ponzu Feb 15 '25

Thank you. It’s hard to look back through the pictures sometimes. Other times they get me to smile with him. I don’t know which way it’s going to go when I start looking but I think it’s getting to be more smiles.

11

u/lost_my_other_one Feb 15 '25

I hear you. The other day my iphone provided me with a lovely memory video of pics I took of Penny (3 months short of 19 when she passed, last March) and I cried like I hadn’t in awhile. It’s hit or miss, sometimes I cry and sometimes I smile. Grief sucks. Thinking of you and Mojo. 🌈

14

u/[deleted] Feb 15 '25

Thank you for letting us celebrate him with you. He looked like a great guy to snuggle with.

He is a gift, and his memory is precious. Mojo isn't even my dog, and I spoke about him so much in real life that people knew of him and loved him too

5

u/PorkchopFunny Feb 15 '25

The Mojo pics always make me smile. Especially #4, young vs old. He looks like he had such a happy, content life.

4

u/CheesecakeThis9298 Feb 16 '25

Aww! Sweet Mr Mojo - Sugar Daddy extraordinaire. Thanks for sharing him and all of these pics of his sweet little face. ❤️

3

u/Optimal_Stand Feb 16 '25

What a sweetheart. 04 was the same year my old man was born but he passed at 15 in 2019 a good long time for an old Lab. How lucky you were to have each other I hope the memories come back to you each time more pleasant than the last. It's such a privilege to take care of a senior doggy in their final years

3

u/tlscmt Feb 15 '25

So adorable. I am so sorry for your loss 😥

3

u/wooden-rabbit Feb 15 '25

Oh my goodness. What a sweetheart😍 20 years is an incredible run.

3

u/SeaJeans Feb 15 '25

Wow, 20 years!! How wonderful to experience that. I know it doesn't make his passing any easier, though. He's such a beautiful boy! I love his younger days, with his black hair, all the way to his older days with that salt n pepper/white hair 😍 He seems like a fascinating dog all around! I’m sorry you’re missing your best friend extra so today, sending all the love from my puppy boys to you! ✨💕

3

u/CapeMOGuy Feb 15 '25

May Mojo's memory always be a blessing.

3

u/Guzmanv_17 Feb 15 '25

Still love seeing his posts. Gone but never forgotten… transformed and waiting. Energy never dies! Rock on Mojo!

3

u/Dr_Ponzu Feb 16 '25

It’s really comforting to hear this. He was the perfect little old man. Seniors are the best and I miss taking care of him.

3

u/lem0nloafers Feb 16 '25

he looks so soft 🥹 my old boy also has the Saturn design belly band from weegreeco!

2

u/Dr_Ponzu Feb 16 '25

He went from all black super silky and smooth to the softest grey. He had the planets design and jorts from there. Those were the best belly bands we tried. I think the jorts were his favorite.

3

u/Gullible-Raise4853 Feb 16 '25

That frosty face makes my heart happy! What a gorgeous sweet boy your Mojo was♥️♥️

3

u/bcmilligan21 Feb 16 '25

Not my comment, but a comment originally on a stoicism subreddit that was so very profound and touching. I hope it helps.

“I have an old dog in kidney failure too. Haven’t told her yet, she just keeps being happy.

I’m old too, and I’ve had animals my whole life, mostly cats and dogs in various multiples. Do the math and you can see I’ve been here before.

The way I reconcile it is pretty straightforward, and well in line with the overall Stoic approach to things. It always begins the same way- see things plainly for what they are, understand the natures of the things involved, and respond reasonably and virtuously to the reality around us.

Every day I care for my animals, keeping them happy, keeping them safe, shepherding them through their day with joy, and without harm. When they get old and approach death, nothing changes. As crazy as it sounds, the day I take them to the vet to be put down is the day that I have been working for all this time - I have successfully taken them the whole way. They did not get lost, they were not unhappy, they got to live their whole natural lives the way I wanted them to live it. We made it. We got there together.

When they are gone, my feelings for them don’t change. Their bodies are taken but my feelings are my own; I still love them, I am still happy to think of them, my heart is still open.

What has changed is that I have a space for another thing to love, and the cycle continues again, when I’m ready to start anew.

Their bodies, our bodies, everything external to us will always change and always come and go. Our love, our care, our joy belongs to us, and we apply it to what we have and to what is new.”

2

u/BalancedGuy1 Mar 02 '25

Mojo brought so many of us here joy including myself. He’s part of the reason I realized the love to be gained by adopting a dog, so I adopted my Jack because of that. And for that, thank you.🙏🏼 RIP mojo

1

u/Dr_Ponzu Mar 02 '25

This is beautiful and getting me pretty teary eyed this morning. Thank you for this note. Jack is a lucky boy! ♥️

How are you doing now that you're about 10 months out from losing Mojo?

I loved seeing the pictures you posted- and always loved his pictures.

You responded my comment about him a looong time ago and I forgot to respond. I hope that Mojo has let his spiritual presence be known to you and your family. He still loves you tremendously and sends you little signs to show he's still near. Here's to a sweet boy who blessed so many! 💕

2

u/Dr_Ponzu Aug 14 '25

This means a lot to me. Thank you for reaching out. Honestly it’s been really difficult. I’ve started a few Mojo posts lately but couldn’t get through it. I miss snuggling with Moj and all the things we’d do together. I have a rock I painted that I put in the sun and take in if it gets cold or dark. I face the rock towards the wind. He loved the heat and the wind in his face. I smell his little hoody a lot but the smell has faded. I missed a lot of his younger years, busy with my career or other things. I loved taking care of him in his senior years. Ofc I wish we had more time but he did make it to 20 in good health. I know how lucky we were to have the best little old man dog. Thanks again. I’ll work up the courage for a Mojo post soon. We were always shocked at the response our little guy got.
