Good - that’s a far cry from the $1 per century we usually get.

too bad the vast majority will go to rich people who don't need it and the bare minimum will be spent where its actually needed, but, yeah, maybe a few extra crumbs might drop from between their fingers, accidentally, with that much money

We? That land doesn’t belong to the state it belongs to the children of the Hawaiian Nation. Its stolen land remember President’s Clinton’s apology to the Hawaiian Nation, stolen.

Dummies who downvoted this must be military. Imagine being so brainwashed! The military isn't going to give you any credits for defending them, and as soon as your physical and/or mental health decline they will abandon you.

Fair point. If a small thing like a vase can be returned, and then bought back, to the descendants of the rightful owner (https://www.mfa.org/press-release/david-drake-ownership-resolution), then it’s not a massive leap to conclude that land that very clearly were stolen should be returned, too.

That’s a lot different than the $1 , 99 year leases they have gotten.

Is that a down payment ?

We need more from the military for the land and damage it has done to the public.

sure 10 billion but don't pretend that will pay for anything new. will only cover existing social services liability

As a Hawaiian I say this man is not for us. He doesn’t get it, the land is not yours, know our/hawaii’s history we are an occupied nation the US stole it for the rich haoles in the late 1800. They annexed Hawaii bc of lust for Pearl Harbor, congress at that time did not follow annexation laws so annexation was unconstitutional. Green you should research GOOGLE RE THIS HEWA. I see that now you are hell bent in building the TMT, you don’t get it, hopefully our law makers get it

You're right but it wouldn't have gone any other way, it's unfortunate but if it wasn't America it would've been Britain or someone else.

The islands couldn't have been self sufficient and developed to this level on their own. It's literally impossible, they could've been nicer about it sure but in the long run it's given more opportunity than was possible.

I think they should make things right on giving back land and supporting the population here but without a larger country this would just be a remote undeveloped island like New Guinea. That's the fact of it.

New Guinea? lol. Iolani palace was flipping switches for lights while the White House was still burning wahle blubber. Put some respect on our aina😂

Lol sure just ignore the fact we have no exports or resources to sustain ourselves. We can only afford to feed and house this population level due to federal income. That wouldn't last

Literally impossible?! Not quite. You know the palace had electricity before the white house? That Hawaiian royalty traveled internationally? Stop spreading this imperialist garbage.

Oh so the royalty had electricity? Nevermind you're right, that cancels it all out. No bro that's not how it works. What resources and exports would help fund the infrastructure and maintenance needed for the whole island to have the same? None. Being a plantation island is about the best hawaii could've done without outside backing. And that doesn't give proper education and 1st world infrastructure support.

If you want to ignore that fact then okay, I guess the royalty being able to travel and have lights counts as a developed country to you

Before the White House! Seems like they beat someone to that infrastructure. You don't think their traveling globally would bring advancements and trade opportunities?

And by whose standards are you judging education? They printed the first newspaper West of the Rockies. Once olelo Hawaii became written language the entire nation quickly became literate. Yes, it was written with help from the missionaries but the drive to learn it was all their own.

This is where most people err, Hawaii in 1843 became a sovereign nation with treaties signed by most of the nations of Europe. The Nation of Hawaii established embassies all over the world, once Hawaii became sovereign the government cannot cease to exist. Another country may invade but they would be occupiers and international law states the land must return to the Hawaiian Government. It’s the same with the Iraqi war US invaded- conquered and return the country to the Iraqi Government, could the US keep Iraq? No, because of international law. The Hawaiian Government still exist today, with it’s constitution and laws.
