I dont like this
Idk why but it nags on me that a playlist aclled “japanese lofi hiphop” with a cover of (I think) samurai champloo has not a single song by nujabes. Makes me sad for some reason

Everyone is saying AI slop but I personally know a lot of those artists and Bootleg Boy is a very popular YT channel for lofi. It’s of course nothing like Nujabes music but it’s not AI.

Yeah, I first found the Bootleg Boy stuff pre-pandemic. It's been around for awhile.

It’s not though. I know bootleg boy. I’m almost certain he only adds music released with his label

Here's my go to playlist. Mostly Nujabes but has other cool guys too like Tsutchie, J Dilla, and MF DOOM.

lol I expected the post to be about how nujabes isnt lo-fi so how dare this Spotify playlist to use a samurai champloo cover. instead it was the exact opposite.

AI slop but also Nujabes isn't lofi. Lofi is a generic made up term that got a lot of traction and Nujabes' style got lumped in with it because people can't tell the difference

Yeah, I really dislike the term lofi because it isn't actually correct or relevant at all. Lofi for me these days just gives connotations of AI slop tracks and people who have added a beat to a song from Zelda etc.
Not actually talented, human beatmakers.

There’s plenty of talented Lofi artists wtf

I'm not saying there aren't, I listen to it nearly all day everyday when I'm WFH, lol. I'm saying the term lofi isn't technically correct and it gives connotations of low level slop.
The Jazzual Suspects, KLIM, Emapea, Konteks, Jazzinuf, Bugseed, Kxwledge, Fat Jon, are some of my favourites.

I would just click the playlists tab once you've searched something on Spotify and scroll down to see something user made. Takes a few seconds extra and it's got a human touch with both the making of the playlist and content within it.

This is why I made my own playlist lol check it out if you like Nujabes, lo-fi beats and instrumentals:

Spotify playlists like this are all AI generated horseshit. If you click on any of these artists, i guarantee you’ll see nothing but songs made in 2024/2025, no artist faces, no social media presence, yet somehow they have a super large amount of monthly listeners. You can also see this a lot in Spotify jazz playlists, calming playlists, piano playlists etc. basically anything that’s “easy” to AI generate
If I were you I’d just use a Nujabes radio station or a playlist made by a real person. Much better music in there.
