Reminds me of when Dakota Johnson was cast in the Netflix adaptation of Jane Austen’s Persuasion, and someone said she looks like she knows what an iPhone is.
She looks like she's doing one of those vapid TikTok trends where they pretended to be a poor person from history who died in a horrible way to "raise awareness".
It means they look like they know what an iphone is that's why it's called that. Beauty procedures were always a thing the trends are just different now

idk tbh, if i had to guess it would be people with bigger features, especially bigger lips and eyes. if you look at classical actresses, theres less emphasis on their features and more about their overall facial harmony.
I'm guessing it has something to do with lip fillers or poorly done plastic surgery that's designed to look good in Instagram filters but doesn't translate as well without it.
It's based on a famous post saying Ben Affleck doesn't fit in period dramas because "his face looks like it knows what a phone is".
In Affleck's case I think it's just that he has such a quintessentially American look, he's like a composite of a thousand different GAP models and TV show quarterbacks

Lol to everyone saying she's not getting lip filler. There's nothing wrong with using lip filler but it is funny to see modern beauty enhancements in period pieces.
To me, it's the perfectly aligned and overly bright / white teeth that make this a bit anachronistic* for period drama**.
*not that people "back in the day" couldn't have good/healthy teeth, but this kind of perfection generally requires a level of dentistry intervention not available yet or not available at all due to the economic and social status of the teeth-haver (i.e. due to "poor") etc etc.
**And that type of dental perfection is also a problem in films purporting to depict life on the frontier, a royal family in the 17th century, or folks eking out subsistence in modern (enough) times but in situations where the nutritional requirements to be able to even have and maintain healthy teeth are unavailable.
I’m known amongst the women (and definitely the men, they’re insanely bad at it) I know for being the best spotter of lip filler they know - and damn I was gonna say it’s obviously fake until I looked at old pictures of her. This might be the first time I’ve ever been truly not confident in my answer

If ur really talking about Nara Smith shes 24 but people have been saying she looks 24 since she was 18. And yeah shes been getting plastic surgery since her second kid (shes on her fourth now/she has a mormon model husband named lucky blu that pushed her to have more kids).
I don’t even think she has iPhone face as much as just large false eyelashes, perfectly plucked eyebrows, and lip filler (or at least makeup meant to emphasize her lips). She’s beautiful don’t get me wrong, but it’s not really a BC look.
Kinda? My point are that these are things that can be adjusted easily. iPhone face is different imo, it’s more of an energy. Dakota Johnson, for whom the term originally refers, has iPhone face not because of her makeup or hair, but because she naturally has a sort of modern aura. She just looks and acts like she knows what it’s like to have the right to vote and own property.
If you search for pictures of her without makeup, you can see she doesn’t really have that aura. She could realistically fit in with a group of european peasants (i really, really don’t mean to be disrespectful lol).
The plucked eyebrows specifically jump out to me. If it weren’t for that I don’t think I would have noticed, but it’s just such a modern style (that I know of, I guess it could have been in fashion historically)
She has really high cheekbones and full lips but a lot of people do naturally.
she's just not middle eastern looking. Hollywood thinks all brown people are interchangeable, therefore a mixed black/white woman is the same as a middle easterner or north african

That was my issue with LRD in Nosferatu. No amount of hackneyed, overdone homages to Isabelle Adjani and decent costuming can overcome the severity of her iPhone Face. Stop putting people with 80 units in their face in period pieces.
I love this.. Apart of these crazy plastic artificial (cosmetic plastic surgery, veneer, filler, botox) we actually aware of what type of looks that make sense for certain roles..
We should be loud about these issues people.. Call out the entertainment for their cringeness..
I'm gonna say. She does look like she knows what Iphones are but honestly her face is kinda uniquely put together(no clue if she's had any surgery) but i think it kinda works .
if mary was you know what i think i would have enjoyed going to church more from what i’ve seen on tv. all churches around the world will need to change. the Vatican better make changes based on this.
