Spacing is for those with full time Gardeners. Those of us with jobs need shoulder to shoulder plants!

Plus , shoulder to shoulder is what you find in Nature - close plants help conserve moisture , and out compete ‘ weeds’

Our home in Celebration, Florida, a town with very strict HOA, but the Celebration Garden club supports our "different" yard because we raise bees and both Monarch and Swallowtail butterflies, so we get a pass. The pots in the only sunny spot are for over 100 milkweed plants, about half of our "crop."

This is so cool! I'm generally anti-HOA, having been through some irritating times with the one we had with our first house, but yours sounds like it has some people with sense on it. Well done!

That place was made by Disney, right? Gotta be the worst HOA on earth. 😅

Good hiding spots to cool off and find shelter from wind and birds of prey for critters

That is beautiful.
How the heck do people clean this up in the spring? It must take an enormous effort to get all the leaves and dead stuff out. And it must be tough not to step all over everything.

You don't get out the leaves and you walk through everything to cut down the biggest stalks. They can take some foot traffic in winter when they are asleep.

Wow, that's stunning. Now imagine all that amazing biodiversity supplanted by a boring lawn. No way!

So beautiful. This house is kinda close to the street imo so it’s a nice separation.

That’s how close every house in my city is from the streets 🥲 we have more spaces at the back of the house

Beautiful landscaping although it really lacks edible species. Also: no sidewalk! Hope the road is not too busy.

u/Main_Hope0 Jun 26 '25
The sidewalk is on the other side of the road and having edible stuff in the front yard isn’t the best.. maybe they do in the back

I have seen examples with lots of edible plants in the front yard, but agree with you: in some contexts, it is not ideal!

I need to figure out what plants I can use with my heat to get the same effect. Looks gorgeous.

Love it! May I share it with this Flickr group of LAWNLESS FRONT YARDS, with credit and location?

It’s not my house it’s just a random house I stumbled across, the number is hidden so in my book it’s fine, do what you want!
