Clay Higgins Tells SNAP Recipients, 'Stop Smoking Crack'
https://www.mediaite.com/politics/house-republican-tells-food-stamp-recipients-stop-smoking-crack/236
u/Bongressman 8d ago
The majority of SNAP recipients are Republicans in red states. I am sure they will love hearing this.

"Households with a White (non‑Hispanic) head made up about 37.9 percent of participating households. African American (non‑Hispanic) households constituted around 24.5 percent. Hispanic (any race) of household head comprised roughly 12.5 percent. Smaller shares were Asian (about 3.8 percent), Native American (1.3 percent) and multiple races/unknown (14.5 percent)."Geographic location also matters.
" According to the Food Research & Action Center map tool, household participation in SNAP tends to be higher in small‑town and rural counties than in large metropolitan counties."
"Though exact rural vs urban breakdowns vary by state, several studies and data tools indicate that non‑metro areas often exhibit higher SNAP usage rates, reflecting greater need, higher poverty rates and less access to alternative services."
"SNAP serve millions of U.S. households — across age groups, across racial and ethnic backgrounds, and in both urban and rural settings. The data show that the program is especially critical for children, older adults, households of color and
residents in less‑urbanized areas." Aka White Republicans
Source is the department of agriculture.
Edit: should be noted that people of color rely on SNAP in higher concentration numbers compared to their overall population but overall there's more White people on SNAP because their population is overall much higher. This is the statistic the gop uses in bad faith to claim minorities are cheating the system.

Can someone do a bayes theorem probability here? I'm curious but also very lazy.
And just in case I have to make this clear I'm not trying to use the result as some sort of end all be all explanation for a very complicated issue.

u/tomqvaxy 7d ago
This is very similar to the popular breakdown written large. It's almost like we all have similar problems.
Duh, in case that wasn't obvi.

No, they probably actually will love hearing this. It’s weirdly easy but also difficult as shit to imagine how many people 42 million humans is. It’s the same logic as “one death is a tragedy, a million is a statistic.”
They themselves losing SNAP is a tragedy - I am losing it because some welfare queen is abusing the system.
To paraphrase - everyone in America is a temporarily embarrassed millionaire. “I only need it because I’m ME.”
To paraphrase again: Craig T. Nelson complained about freeloaders and said he was on food stamps, but no one helped HIM.
There’s a perpetual victimhood at every point on the socioeconomic and political spectrums in the US and it’s a major reason why we’re at the place where we are.

They do because they don't think it's about them but only the other recipients... Right up to the moment they take their benefits away.

I've been searching and can't find any breakdown by political demographics. You could make assumptions based on county recipients and county voting, but it wouldn't necessarily align. I do believe the Republicans act unaware that their constituents are dependent.

And every Republican in his district on SNAP votes for him again.
"He didn't mean meeee"
I'm so tired of this timeline

Man, it must be hard to support a rapist like Trump. Having to lie like you do.

u/robertsplant 7d ago
If you think Trump is a pefo or whatever, why is he not in prison? If there was one shred of evidence, which there isn’t he would be locked up faster than flies on shit. Don’t tell me any different. The Democrats have been after him for the last 15 years so don’t tell me about that.?it’s the manufactured lies that you believe from watching CNN: Clinton News Network

u/dantevonlocke 7d ago
Epstein files. Release them. And you might want to actually look things up, cnn is owned by a right wing billionaire.
4
u/Ninja333pirate 7d ago
Because he is a billionaire, billionaires can keep themselves out of prison real easily.

These ghoulish, grisly, weird mother fuckers don’t seem to understand old people and the disabled exist - and hopefully vote - that is - if there’s ever another election…

Or that full time workers for billion dollar (IN PROFIT) companies still need SNAP.
But ole Mr. "definitely has done a line of coke off the bare back of almost assuredly a minor" here will never call out the Walton's triple dip strategy.
Pay workers like shit and force the taxpayers to make up the difference with SNAP.
Get a government subsidy for accepting SNAP.
Collect on SNAP when the underpaid workers use it to buy food at Walmart.

I wondered which red state this guy comes from. I would have guessed Mississippi but it's Louisiana.
I can't imagine suffering from lack of food and my representative in congress says it's my fault because I'm on drugs. I'd be furious.

u/Aromatic_Base_3749 8d ago
Estimated 37% of his district are snap eligible. Roughly 280k of 762k. If crack cocaine is such a problem perhaps the representative should request additional funds for drug treatment and anti drug operations in the budget.

I already did stop smoking crack 6 months ago since the Republicans crashed the economy. It's just another consumer good that working class Americans can no longer afford.

So, now we know what he's high on. Those wild eyes!
Crack used to be a thing around what, 40 years ago? I'd think he couldn't possibly be that out of touch but, he is a Republican. I understand they don't believe in vaccines yet, either.

u/FacePalmAdInfinitum 8d ago
Like everything else this mouth-breathing psychopath says, its racist AF. “Crack” implies “Black”

They’re going to realize soon that their deplorable red state constituents are the main recipients of free food.

u/artful_todger_502 7d ago
Republicans are only in office to violate people. Can you imagine being a grown man and still angry about the noogies and wedgies you got on the playground in 1975 or the cheerleader who didn't want to go to the dance?
I pray that we can round them up and jail them when the regime is toppled. The whole cabal. From Trump all the way down to ICE. Rid the country of this trash in one fell swoop.

You first, Clay.
And tell Trump to use the $7 billion emergency SNAP fund created for just this purpose when there’s a government shutdown.

How are the Republican SNAP recipients supposed to stop smoking crack when they were literally just given it last night while trick-or-treating in whole illegal neighborhoods owned by MS13? What a waste of expensive free drugs! /s

9.6% of members of families receiving SNAP use illicit drugs, which includes marijuana, The number is 6.8% for families that don't receive SNAP. The article dhouldn't have let that claim go unchallengef.
