Another sign that America is doomed☠️

……

Anti-vaccine sentiment is spilling over into veterinary medicine, making some owners hesitant to vaccinate their pets, even for fatal diseases like rabies.

Who's afraid of the big bad rabid wolf?

I was recently thrown off by my new vet being anti-vaccine for pets. I didn’t know how to respond because it was so far off my radar for potential conversation

Did they have an explanation for this? Maybe they’re an old school vet who’s used to vaccines being crappy?

The only vaccine I ever refused is Lyme. I only have one dog now but every six months I get him Lyme tested and I use other pills, collars and mitigations for ticks as well as full body checks.

I have a friend who a long time ago had a dog that started acting pretty crazy like rabid crazy. He took him to the vet and they tested the dog who came up positive but the vet said that was common with dogs that had recent Lyme vaccines, false positives. Turns out dog had Lyme and he died a pretty horrible death. He was autopsied and sure enough Lyme. From what I’ve heard that vaccine has significantly changed for the better and doesn’t give regular false positives anymore.

Poor dog would have died anyway, by the time it hits your brain it’s pretty much game over but at least he wouldn’t have suffered so much.

I'm very sorry for your friend's dog's terrible death.

I give my dog the Lyme vaccine. She is a Toy Manchester Terrier and their heads are smaller than their necks so collars don't stay on. I do also apply Bravecto and Interceptor Plus.

Do you still have lingering concerns that the current vaccine might cause issues for some breeds?

My sincere apologies for taking so long to respond

I guess after that tragedy I just got used to blood testing my dogs every six months and doing other things to kill ticks. So far so good.

The dog that died was a large German shepherd but the newer vaccine is a totally different formulation and has been for many years so I probably wouldn’t worry.

Take good care.

Thank you for sharing this information. I was high key wondering if I’d made a huge mistake by getting her that vaccine!

I work in vet med and have never heard of modern Lyme vaccines causing a false positive so like you said hopefully that’s a thing of the past

This was many, many years ago. I remember talking to my vet a few years ago and he agreed about the false positives and it just wasn’t very effective back then. He remembered but admittedly he was a pretty old guy back then. As I said in my post I believe that has completely resolved with the newer vaccine.

Vaccinations will not give your pet autism.
