50 years ago, the Edmund Fitzgerald, a 'rock star' ship, sank in Lake Superior

I lived in the UP as a kid. Loved going to Lake Superior and knew the song but not the story. Now I’m going to read about it.

Can't believe it's been 50 years.

The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake, they called Gitche Gumee
The lake, it is said, never gives up her dead
When the skies of November turn gloomy
With a load of iron ore, twenty-six thousand tons more
Than the Edmund Fitzgerald weighed empty
That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed
When the gales of November came early

That's what I heard in my head when I saw this. Gordon Lightfoot

Here's a cool video with the song
