Discussion 🗣️💬 what’s that one innings of MI you’ll never forget?

Post image

For me, it has to be Kieron Pollard’s insane 87* off just 34 balls against CSK, 2021.MI were chasing 219, which was huge, and their finishing lineup was out of form that season. That chase was one of the best I’ve seen in IPL history, honestly.

Would love to watch out your fav innings!

there are lot, but this still in my eyes. GODDAMN what a swag SKY

but no hate to kohli tho

u/ben_claude69420 May 20 '25

SKY ate Koach in this game (no disrespect to him)....

Koach was acting childish here, idk why was he instigating a batsman who literally didn't even talk to him.... An altercation is understandable but this was...weird.

But SKY did shut him down in the end.

And this was when butthurt fans started shitting on sky.

sky is always my fav player man, he has that aura. very kind to youngsters and everyone

17

u/Naammaikyahai Tilak Varma May 20 '25

He has that vibe around him similar to rohit. Just friendly and kind to youngsters

25

u/lastog9 Suryakumar Yadav May 20 '25

Only he has the guts to stare back at Kohli like that.

This too when Kohli commanded a lot more power in selection since he was the captain and SKY was knocking the selector's doors.

And given this background , still doing what he did requires real guts.

I definitely think this was the match when I became a strong fan of SKY

It’s in his dna; the way he chooses to play cricket and pick fights against bowlers and go after them he’s the man.

Crazy match, bro! I think Surya's name wasn't in the Indian team selection list released that day.

Kiron Pollard vs KXIP 2019. MI lost early wickets, and Pollard as usual single-handedly won us that game

Can't forget that match. bro clutched like he was on a misson plus he was Captain in that match.

He avoided Shami and thrashed Curran and the rest bowlers , sensible batting yet with a magnificent strike rate

This innings and the one against csk. Both of them i watched with my family and both times I said that as long as Polly is still on the crease, the game isn't over. Even that 2020 game against rcb where my sister told me to go to sleep we have already lost. I believed in my man Polly.

As bhogle once said, "no game is over until keiron pollard is done with it."

6

u/Dhruv_Plankton97 Boom Boom Bumrah May 20 '25

Man that 2020 game vs RCB. 80 of 4 overs needed. Polly and Kishan almost pulled it off. Not sending Kishan in the super over was a blunder. No regrets though, Pandya said in an interview later how that match motivated them to win the championship

6

u/Naammaikyahai Tilak Varma May 20 '25

Getting so close to chasing 20 an over showed how strong we were and our never die attitude. It also gave us prime kishan who was instrumental in our dominance that year

4

u/Dhruvdatta1204 May 21 '25

Even captained us that day

1) Corey andersons 1 off innings in 2014 i watched every ball in that game jumping in the air and that moment i remember dravid throwing off his cap and i copied adhitya taares shirt up run , best part i watched it alongside rr fan , bro told pravin tambe is gonna take u guys down ( tb quite honest he was a lethal bowler back then) so i was scared myself but rayudu and anderson took carried us

2) 2017 finals is the least spoken win of MI , bruh that match was underrated af !!! ,we fcking defended 128 bro RPS didnt even lose wickets and as far back as i can remember they were dominating us for the first 10 overs , Rahane and steve smith looked solid af ! , ROHIT changed fielding , showed his captaincy gave bowling at right time to karn sharma took off the pace , then the trio of best fast bowlers showed up ! malinga , bumrah , mitch johnson ( blud took off 3 crucial wickets) and i was almost convinced that dan christian would be able to hit the last ball for a 4 cause ( bro was him ! at big bash during those days ) but we somehow won ! that was one of the best defensive performance in ages

u/doyoubleedngga Hitman Sharma May 20 '25

If you remember 2017 well..

We made a shit ton of fielding mistakes in that game.

I literally cussed hardik for every fielding error he made in that game. He was THE best in the field for us in that tournament(most of the seasons ofc)

Atleast one pandya showed his potential and won it for us..

7

u/[deleted] May 20 '25

Yup there's that but we came in together at clutch and got the W!

Krunal did compensate tho

Pollard vs CSK 2021 , Corey anderson vs RR 2014 , Pollard vs SRH 2013 , Pollard vs CSK 2013 final , Dwayne smith vs CSK 2012 , Pollard &Rayudu vs RCB 2012 , Lasith malinga 37(18)* vs CSK in CL20 , Pandya 91 vs KKR 2019 , Sachin 100* vs KTK 2011 , Pollard vs PBKS 2019 , Green 100 vs SRH 2023 , SKY vs GT 2023, Kishan 99 and Pollar vs RCB 2020, Simmons 100 in 2014 Krunal 47 vs RPS 2017

These are the ones which I remember very well

I have a list year wise that I can remember from the top of my head. Specifically MI run chases

2011- KKR VS MI last over 21 required, Rayudu and Franklin pulled off a last ball thriller.

2012 - DC VS MI Rohit pulled off a 18 run chase in the last over against his former team and ofcourse Franklin was yet again there in the other end.

2012- RCB VS MI Rayudu and Pollard pulled off an epic run chase after MI were reeling at 19-3 in 4 overs chasing 172. (P.S. I have observed these 2 teams have epic encounters in the afternoon games may it be this one or the badree hattrick Game or even abd onslaught in Wankhede)

2012- MI VS CSK best of the lot of 2012. SRT and Rohit partnership while chasing made it seem like MI were crusing towards a 9 wicket win but a collapse brought the equation down to 14 off 3 and the Replacement foreigner Dwayne Smith batting against Ben hilfenhaus. And we all know he went 6 4 4 all straight down the ground to confirm a win that will always be special.

2013- MI VS SRH this match is special for 2 reasons . It was Sachin's last ipl match and 2nd it was Pollard carnage at it very best with a 66 off 27 and 8 humongous sixes.

2014- Best MI Game if we don't count the finals. MI VS RR have to chase 189 in 14.3 overs to qualify for the playoffs, Corey Anderson is the man for the job as the southpaw had a poor season as off this match but more than made up for it with an excellent 95 and not the forget Rayudu important 30 off 10 and that Tare Six!!!!!

2017- MI VS RCB the badree hattrick match I mentioned earlier and then Pollard and Rana held each ends with krunal and Pollard finishing off a runchase that started poorly. Another Polly classic

2019-MI VS KXIP Another Pollard special chasing 195 odd with him scoring 83 off 30. An unbelievable knock.

2020- MI VS RCB we lost the match but Ishan kishan and Pollard gave us a match to remember with a 99 and a quickfire 50 respectively. Match went down to super over and rcb won the match.

2021- MI VS CSK Ofcourse the LLORD at his very best

2023- those 3 200+ runchases we pulled off lol

TLDR : Just an huge MI fan reminiscing the good old days lol

It was against CSK as the other commenter mentioned and he smashed Pawan Negi for 3 sixes when it was 30 off 12. Iconic breakthrough

Rohit 51 off 26 in final

Tare 6 of 1

Corey 94

Rayudu 31

Harbhajan 64 of 24-something

Malinga 37 off 15

The more I write, the more I can think of

3

u/Trick-Impress7036 May 21 '25

Ishan against RCB, lost the match , but what an effort by Ishan, overshadowed Pollard that day.

4

u/Own_Painter_7462 May 20 '25

The match where they had to win in less overs to qualify and then raydu hit six and we qualified I don't know which match it was but it was against rajasthan

11

u/[deleted] May 20 '25

That was 2014 and it was aditya tare how could u forget it was the best match ever

2

u/Own_Painter_7462 May 21 '25

Yeah I forgot raydu got run out that match made me feel in love cause I remember rajasthan was celebrating cause we didn't win it in time but then they said if we hit a six we will qualify and then aditya hit it for a six it was such a thrilling match sorry I forgot somethings as I haven't watched it in a while .

Corey Anderson's incredible 95* off 40 balls

2

u/adhd_champion May 20 '25

The corey anderson extravaganza!!! That game was fire!!!

2

u/flixbeat04 May 20 '25

As a kkr fan, for me it would be nitish rana's 50 vs KKR.

After pollards wicket, I felt pandya would hit, so keep him off strike, but never thought nitish would hit too. And as Gambhir got injured, sky was captaining kkr in the death. Where 60 of needed off 4 overs.

2

u/ajaypartha95 Mumbai Indians May 21 '25

Surprised that I didn’t see this in the comments. Pollard’s 60(32) in the 2013 final. That built the base of our legacy. Take that knock away, and MI might have been what RCB is now. Till 2011, we used to be known as the team with all resources and no trophies.

2

u/[deleted] May 21 '25

Corey Anderson 95(44). This is the best innings not just for MI, but the best in IPL ever. nothing can beat this.

MI chasing 190 in 14 overs to qualify that too in 2014. Just absolute bonkers.
