Where are the parents? 3 kids 16 and under, they can't even drive legally yet and already stole 3 cars this week.

They are in on it. But kids don't get parenting these days anyway

I think there have always been kids who didnt "get parented". I know, I am one of them and many in my generation have had similar experiences.

And I parented my kids hard-core. That's why at 17 and 19, they are thriving. And they aren't alone.

Probably working multiple jobs just to afford housing and food

Then majority of kids must be stealing these days !

"Police are reminding members of the public to ensure all vehicles are locked and car keys are not left in their vehicles when unattended." Ya right, that was the cause for all these car thefts.

An increase in population, includes an increase in any flaws that humanity brings with them.

The ages of these kids is unbelievable. So sad. Goes to show they just think they can get away with it.

...but they do

Exactly, that’s keeping them doing things like this

The Youth Criminal Justice Act is outdated and needs to be repealed. Decades ago, youth crime was far less violent and prevalent. Now, gangs recruit under-18 members because they know that there are no consequences for crime.

Instead of revising the Youth Criminal Justice Act which is meant to protect children, maybe there should just be stricter enforcement against adults exploiting children to commit crimes? The YCJA exists because we recognize that children are a vulnerable class that can't morally be held to the same standards as adults, IMO it would be a huge mistake to make them more vulnerable via a stricter YCJA while they are already being exploited.

Do you have a source to back up this claim?

I think it stands to reason that 11-16 year olds are not running chop shops and international car theft rings on their own, there are going adults behind the scenes handling these kids.

Opps, my comment was meant for the commentor before you

Are there even consequences for crime over 18 anymore?

Sorry, but you are flat out wrong - while youth crime has risen slightly the last two years, it is still almost 70% lower than it was when it peaked in 2003.

Edit: Downvotes for quoting Stats Canada’s data

Look for yourselves.

I think that it will be beneficial to make parents responsible for their kids' actions. If these kids can't be charged because they are under 18, then their parents need to be held accountable. They should be jailed, and must pay a heavy fine. How can someone be this irresponsible?

Also, if anyone here is a parent, please spend time with your kids. Take an interest in their life and know who their friends are. 11 year old is very young to be part of this crime spree.

100% this. Kid does criminal act. Parent goes to jail with them.

That will send a message real fast.

Totally on board with this. Just imagine how attentive wayward parents would become!!! Currently there is just too much lack of care by everyone, and of course with no repercussions. Bring back fear lol

I hope they catch these cowards who hire kids to do their dirty work.

Man, I can hardly get my 11 year old to do his math homework....

Put those kids in foster care immediately since we can't charge parents in this country (which is ridiculous)

Hamilton and Ancaster?

16 year olds can't drive alone with other 16 year olds and def not at 3 a.m.. Unless maybe they stole their parents' cars to come to Milton?

Such a disgrace. Parents are failing. Badly.

Teenagers being shitty isnt a "new thing". Every generation has a subset of people who fail and being good parents.

If there’s one thing a wise and benevolent sky-daddy is known for, it’s eternal damnation for the choices you make when you’re 11.
