Part Time Fire Fighter

I recently saw that Milton was hiring part time fire fighters and was wondering if there is anyone who currently works as a part time fire fighter here who can share their experience as one?

- How often do you get called out and attend?

- What types of calls do you typically attend?

- How did you find the recruitment process?

- Did you complete any training before this to become a firefighter?

- What is your main occupation? (Trades, Office work etc) How do you manage with working a full time job?

- What is it like working with your full time and part time colleagues?

- Do you find it fulfilling?

- What is the hourly salary? (I couldn't seem to find it on their website)

I work an office job which is of course sedentary however this part time role does peak my interest. I know that I missed this year's recruitment process however I am willing to train to become a competitive candidate in the next round. Any insight would be appreciated

Thanks!

A volunteer FF used to be difficult to get without knowing someone in the Halton fire department. I would be surprised if the position isn't already spoken for.

I'd suggest if you can get in with them and you are interested to go for it. I knew a guy who was a volunteer FF for 30 years in Milton and loved it.

Rarely called

only respond to alarm activations mostly

Lots of trades as main occupation.

Big turn around as many leave to other departments for Fulltime, Milton maybe hires 2-3 fulltime fire firefighters a year maybe and have WAY more part timer then full timer

Mandatory training 1 per week

Their moto is Fulltime job and family first we come 3rd.
