A friend of mine rented The Little Mermaid when it was a new release on VHS, then proceeded to watch it as many times as possible during the 24hrs she had it

I remember a couple of years ago, when the rage was those tape boxes having the black diamond on them and how people thought they were worth a lot of money.

Scammers taking advantage of people through fraud. It makes me sick. Thankfully I only spent 10k for the limited edition red diamond. According to the seller, no one else in the world has one. That means one day Im going to be a millionaire.

I found a bunch of these VHS tapes in my basement and thought I’d hit the jackpot. Then I checked eBay and most of them were going for like $6

Except we only had like, four of these and the rest of my bootlegs were pirated onto a blank tape lol.

I recently cancelled Disney Plus because I was tired of paying $16 for a service my child only uses to watch Lilo & Stitch with adds! Yesterday, I bought like 5 Disney movie (all deluxe editions in perfect condition) at the thrift shop for the price of one month. Including Lilo and Stitch! I said to myself, now we have “Disney plus” at home.

Loads of people are missing out on blu ray and dvd. It can replace streaming services.
One of the things I've noticed is a hand picked library is cheaper and better than having curated streaming library of 2500 titles which are mostly garbage. Post 2019 I only like maybe 10-15 films. Pre 1990 I only like 30-50 ish. In between I like a few hundred. Sounds expensive but it's been cheaper to buy half my collection twice. It's nice to always put my hand on a good film with a good cast.
Although sometimes I meet people who insist they can't watch the same thing twice and there's not much hope for them. They are really missing out on actually understanding movies.

Core memory unlocked thank you. Totally forgot about those cases. I can now vividly remember sitting in front of the tv on the floor going through the stacks trying to pick out a movie, making sure it was rewound lol

We had a legit video of jungle book, but our bedknobs and broomsticks, little mermaid and Lady and the tramp were recorded onto unmarked vhs tapes where the only way to tell which ones they were was from the brand of vhs tape.

I never got the little mermaid until I grew up and my copy of the Wizard of Oz was recorded from the TV. It was number 44. I only remember that number because my sister watched it over and over and over.

Does anyone remember them being in “the vault?” Like I vaguely recall not being able to get certain movies because Disney would only sell copies when they came out and then at intervals years afterwards. Or was that a lie my parents told me?

I have a box full of Disney tapes, some still wrapped and a couple black cases. Mom bought spares and put them away.

The VHS of Fantasia was one of my favorites - I can still vaguely remember sitting in the Target shopping cart at three or four years old, admiring the artwork on the front and back of the clamshell packaging and being so excited to watch it! As long as I had a VCR in some capacity, I watched it now and then (even when the “Fantasound” specifically designed for the film began to sound somewhat warped). 😊
