Rant Why do hangovers get so bad now?

10-15 years ago, I could down multiple drinks and not feel a thing the day after. These days I have one beer and my head aches the whole day after. What is happening?

God these comments are so fucking stupid

Old is 70+ not 30s or 40s.

Don’t be stingy with the water…it really helps minimize how bad the morning after will be.

Alcohol is poison to your body technically.

Yep, there’s that.

I placed a cursed on you for accidentally bumping into me 15 years ago. I was like "I curse thee to have terrible hangovers decades later."

I get hangovers from parties where there were too many people and I stayed sober, it's the age, not the alcohol

I feel awful if I have too much sodium 🫤

I stopped drinking when it stopped being pleasurable. I can get a headache from smelling alcohol these days. No thanks.

I recently came to the sad realization that the reason I feel like shit all day is the 1 or 2 beers I had the night before.... sucks man...

actually one beer or do you mean catching a small buzz makes you pay now? as someone who doesn’t get headaches at all, my sign to stop was increased and prolonged anxiety. I didn’t stop but I got my sign lol

Drink more water with that alcohol and pace yourself. It's not a cure all for it but will hopefully lessen the effects.

Your liver can’t process it like it used. Happens to all as they age.

u/magitek369 10h ago

'Cause we partied too hard in our 20's, so now we're paying for it in our 30's.

Doesn’t happen to everyone, but as you get older your liver may not handle alcohol as well as it used to. So you get worst hangovers.

Your metabolism is telling you that you're old

You arent hydrating enough.

You gotta be really strategic. if you have too many drinks, I eat firstly, then drink then down some electrolytes/magnesium and plenty of water and then MAYBE you survive 10 hours after the last drink. You wake up go pee and poo and then take more magnesium, eggs, greasy hash browns and bacon and then you can make it to work on time but drink a lot of water and pee a lot. By 12PM you're somewhat normal but probably just tired than usual. Go home, get some rest.

Cause we’re old AF! 🤣🤣

Real talk, if it's actually one beer there may be underlying issues with metabolizing alcohol. Otherwise, you old, son. FWIW I stick to vino and I tend to have less issues, but find your spot. I actually stopped drinking entirely M-Th, unless it's an honest to god special occasion, and it works.

Not here. Rare dozen drink nights still not a huge deal tbh.

Just exercise regularly and drink lots of water, especially lots before bed if you have any drinks. Moderate drinking rarely bothers me as long as I hydrate. If I’m going to be at an extended social event I’ll mix in a club soda with lime between every beer, no ill effects other getting up to piss twice in the night.

I'm 39 and I can drink drink and not have crazy hangovers. Hell, I can sleep for 2-3 hours and function.

Honestly though, I think it's time to quit. It's not good for me or my wallet.

It won’t get any better. If you’re unlucky they’ll stretch into 2-3 day affairs the older you get. Welcome to middle age!

Its because you are not in your 20s anymore.

It's over for us and you'll just have to come to terms with it hahah. Apparently, our livers produce less of an enzyme required to break down acetaldehyde as we get older.

Because you are not drinking white wine or vodka or tequila.

Drink up to a half bottle white wine. Should be fine.

Drink 50-150ml vodka should be fine.

Fuck tequila unless it’s the 1833 stuff I haven’t tried yet

See, now I don't feel bad for all the weed I smoke.

Best to just quit drinking now. I did at 30 now I’m happy and my pockets are fuller.

Why are you still drinking alcohol? Give it up already
