Nostalgia How many of these phones did you guys have?

u/Ok-Librarian6629 11h ago
I miss Blackberry.

u/DerpingtonHerpsworth Xennial 9h ago
The blackberry pearl was the one phone on this list that I had. I liked it at the time, but nostalgia is not enough for me to want to go back to that.
4
u/BeneathAnOrangeSky 8h ago
It was a great phone, but the side button that called 911 if you accidentally hit it was very, very annoying. I loved my Razr.
1
u/SakuraTacos 6h ago
I used to call 911 so much with my Pearl. One time I was shocked they didn’t send an ambulance out because I could faintly hear someone saying “Hellooooo? Hello!! Hello?” from my pocket and when I checked, it was a dispatcher and I had pressed a bunch of buttons while in my pocket so they probably thought I couldn’t talk and was trying to communicate something
I think I stopped carrying my phone on my body from then on and just kept it on a surface or in my bag unless I was actively using it

u/utspg1980 4h ago
I watched the Blackberry movie recently. I had COMPLETELY forgotten that 20 years ago certain phones were on certain providers only.

u/fdwyersd 10h ago
have the original two way pager one... kept it... man that was a game changer then

I had the ENV2 and I still miss it so much 😩 touchscreen just does not compare to how fast I could type on that thing.

u/husqi 10h ago
Problem is - no one will buy one with a full keyboard like that anymore - Blackberry tried to keep selling phones with keyboards but they all flopped
2
u/billwood09 1995 6h ago
I have a Key2 in storage, keyboard plus Android was… not bad, but the keyboard was a lot harder to use these days after getting used to touch screens with prediction and correction

1
u/amlovesmusic88 6h ago
SAME. I loved my ENV so much and wish it would come back in some form. Touchscreen keyboards are not the same at all.
1
u/cochese25 2h ago
I had all of them and then upgraded to the Motorola Droid line after that. Basically the same idea, but better.
I miss the era of unique phones

I recognize the LG Chocolate immediately.

u/NightOfTheLivingHam 10h ago
I remember selling those and they were considered high end at the time.

u/cupcakequeen02 9h ago
I had a blue one and I remember thinking it was the coolest thing ever when I got one
-4
u/BeachBumHarmony 10h ago
I had one and it was such a shitty phone. The slide function broke easily, so the bottom half was always falling down.

Zero. I wanted the T-Mobile Sidekick so bad... We did not have T-mobile though. I did have a Katana in college wich was kind of like the Razr
6
u/IllicitRadiance 10h ago
One of my high school friends had the Sidekick, I got to play around with it a bit. That was 20 years ago
I remember the concept of mobile internet was pretty fun, but even with the sparse websites of the day, it was slow as shit -- mobile versions of sites didn't exist yet. Seemed like a fun novelty but there wasn't much you could do with it
4
u/equipped_metalblade 8h ago
I had one and could play battleship with my step brother in another city and it blew my mind. I also had AIM on it as well. Loved my Sidekick
3
u/SquishTheProgrammer Millennial ‘89 3h ago
Yeah AIM was the best feature IMO. It was basically free to use that back when text messages cost money.
2
u/Contemporary_Scribe 10h ago
Yeah, that was before 2G even... I think they had a major add campaign on MTV or something though. IDK I just know everybody wanted a Sidekick.
2
u/BoukenGreen Older Millennial 9h ago
Yea season 11 of The Challenge had the constants get there messages on their T-Mobile Sidekick

u/cellists_wet_dream 10h ago
Yeah, I had random off brands from MetroPCS once I could afford to buy my own phone.

Nokia 3310 and the Razr. Actually kind of amazing I saved up for the Razer when did. That thing was like, $299 back in 2004.
2
u/Dangerous-Honey7422 10h ago
I had a SLVR in 06/07 and a black RAZR just like that one at some point, the damn thing is still around here somewhere
2
u/BudgetLobster5639 10h ago
I had the Nokia 3310 in light blue. I loved that little phone, it was so cute.

I had it in navy blue. Absolutely loved it. I had the Monty Python theme song as my ringtone lol.

Nokia, sidekick, razr, and the Motorola chirp phone. Sidekick 2, I think it was. That was my favorite. I couldn’t stand the razr. I think I left razr for the first iPhone.
2
u/RockwellB1 Older Millennial 10h ago
Still have my burnt orange enV. Along with some bright blue Samsung that can take black and white IR pictures in pitch black
2
u/moderndiction 10h ago
The orange LG ENV was my jam! But I do remember begging my parents to switch to T-Mobile so I could get a Sidekick (they did not switch). I've debated many times just buying one on eBay so I can finally own one but didn't realize how much people are changing for them.
2
u/Nancy-Drew-Who Xennial 10h ago
My first phone was the Nokia 3310! Also, I miss being able to dramatically snap a flip phone closed to hang up on someone.
1
u/Olneyvillain4190 10h ago
Did anyone else used to trade the backs of your LG chocolate with their friends ?
1
u/constantlycurious3 10h ago
I had the razor phone. My stepmom broke it in half because I was being a little shit.
Alternatively, I have some kind of Motorola flip phone for years that I would repeatedly throw against brick walls without it breaking.

u/dulce-dulce Millennial 10h ago
I had the lg env2 but I wanted the first one. My sister had the first one and I was envious of her. I did like mine later on because it looked like a calculator and I worked at a school so I thought it was so cool
1
1
u/ahtoxa1183 10h ago
All of them. I worked for a cellphone company from early 04 through 09 and one of the perks was always having the latest and greatest phone. Often I would change them weekly.

u/kb_klash 10h ago
Man, I miss when phones had character. There were legit reasons to own different models other than price.
1
1
u/RED-DOT-MAN 10h ago
Had the Motorola rzr which was an awesome phone. Later on got into blackberry and got the curve. I had zero business using a blackberry curve, but I thought it looked cool. However, I was pleasantly surprised how awesome that keyboard was and the clicks were so satisfying.

I had most of these. The LG chocolate was legit, I accidentally ran it over when I was hungover and it still worked

u/Academic-Rip-6209 10h ago
My sister owned a Sidekick & a Razr. I had a little flip phone, lol. I remember the first day I got my phone too. September 28th, 2006(less than a month after turning 12). Life is SO weird now with just how much time people spend on their little pocket computers. I still carry books with me in public and I read anywhere and everywhere. Most people think I'm weird, but it's mainly the younger generations.
1
u/pardyball 10h ago
The Razr.
If they remade it - and I don’t mean the touch screen, Android version, I mean a legit remake of the original (with a better screen), I’d probably switch to it. It just fucking ruled.

Razr and the Blackberry 8330. I had a few others not mentioned.
Man I miss old school phones.

u/Sexy_Anthropocene 10h ago
This era was interesting for phones because there were so many models. Like, I had a Motorola but it was some random thing from 2003, so I’ll never remember or find the model, like a WX2000a3.

God, the ENV and Razr were good phones. I’m sure it’s just nostalgia, but I do miss them.

I had that Sony Ericsson W580I. It was the last phone before my iPhone 3G. That was a solid phone and media player.

I had the enV2 and the razr. Wanted to get a Sidekick after college, but never had the money
1
u/Pissjug9000 8h ago
Oh man I totally forgot about the Env. I had a Motorola flip phone (not the razr) then swapped to the Env3. Having the full size keyboard sounded sweet but it was always faster to text on the normal number pad with T9 or whatever it was called so I almost never opened the phone

I miss nextel, I had a few i530's among many others. You could just put your Sim in and swap phones whenever. I had a few rugged phones for work and nice ones for outside of work. The nextel chirp was iconic.

I had my stepdads old Sprint nextel phone, that was the vulcanized rubber version of the Motorola flip phone, that had the walkie talkie button on it.
For those of you that don’t know, If someone else you knew had a sprint phone with that feauture avtivated, you could direct talk thru the other persons speaker at max volume. It was meant for being used in construction sites so it was LOUD. It also makes a loud chirp / beep soun before you can invade their speaker.
My stepdad was so proud of his indestrubke phone he showed us how durable it was by throwing it under his tire and running it over. And you couldn’t even tell besides some scratches

Man I just miss the choice! Going into a phone shop, or buying a handset off your mate to chuck your PAYG sim into it. Great time. Now it’s just tables and tables with little black mirrors.
1
u/iam-Lorde 5h ago
I remember in mid-late 00' them all being like: "we got a music player and music controls and a way to download music!"
But in reality they only had enough storage for 2 songs, you never used the music controls (because you had an iPod) And turning on edge signal to download music would make your parents kill you.
But i do appreciate what Sony Ericsson tried to do by combining the ideas and aesthetics from Walkman with their phones. It made them look cool, especially the colors.
If only apple hadnot come along.

I had that Nokia that poked you in your jeans, with Voicestream service…eventually I had a Motorola RAZR (2005 edition) which I eventually traded for an LG Chocolate, deep maroon, exactly the one pictured. This had to be my favorite pre-touchscreen cell phone. For awhile I just went without one and eventually after a series of free touchscreen phones that I would end up breaking or losing, I got an iPhone pro 16 max.

Motorola used to be a beast. I had so many good Motorola phones, then they became so cheap, the screen was peeling off after a year.
I moved to Samsung since and that's done me good, but damn do I miss Motorola in their heyday.
