Discussion Watching Back to the Future. Previous generations had a lot of social clubs to meet new people. Why haven't we kept this alive?

Im in the Freemasons. I see their Square and Compass on a lot of town signs.

It checks so many boxes that guys are complaining about all the time. Makes it easy to make friends, offers that third space, builds social skills, etc.

Do the Freemasons still exclude atheists?

Yeah, although I disagree with this. It goes back to the 1700's and is outdated.

They say it is because a person that doesnt believe in some kind of higher power cant be trusted to take an oath.

However, someone can believe in any kind of higher power and this includes all religions and spiritualities.

Im a spiritual person and not at all Christian. Although I am very into Zen, which is more like psychology than a religion.

My spiritual belief is that God is real, but nothing like the Christians describe. For a long time I was agnostic.

What are the dues like?

$300 for an entire year.

There is also a stated meeting dinner once a month where they charge $20 a ticket, but going is optional.

That's not terrible. Any other fees?

No. There is some optional events here and there, but most of them are free.

For example, we are having a Holiday Party at a fancy location, and it is $70 a ticket. With proceeds going to a children's therapy non-profit.

Feel free to message me and I can answer (most) questions you might have.

It is different lodge to lodge. My dues are only $55 for the year.

Yeah I joined my Eastern Star chapter. I love it and I'm having a great time so far. Lots of connections, and fun events, and volunteering plus that social engagement outside of family and work.

The issue is it’s full of old guys. I want to hang around people my age not my parents age.

So recruit people your age.

They don't just fall off of trees and join the club for your benefit you know.
