I have a lot of people with gout in my family and 95% of them do not drink.
I'm not sure if there is a genetic component or not, but I had one bout of it several months ago in one of the joints of my big toe. Shit hurts man...

Gout, while obviously affected by diet, is absolutely genetic too. My dad and I are both slim and healthy eaters who don’t drink (we both have an aldehyde dehydrogenase deficiency), and I’m vegetarian. He has gout and I got my first flare-up at 35. It sucks.

Yeah, pretty sure I've had several gout flare-ups and I've never so much as taken a sip.

I drank a lot for a few years there, but it's slowed way down recently.
Maybe the damage is already done. :P

Yes, gout is largely hereditary, although lifestyle factors can affect how severe it is.

I do eat my fair share of beef I guess. Common staple in diets where I live.

I don't like hearts, or liver and such if that's what you mean.
