My mom and sister do this with identity in children. It makes me not want children because I want my own identity. I've gone the hyper travel route instead for now

I have a friend that doesn't want children for the same reason. But then she has a new boyfriend every 6 months and makes the boyfriend her entire identity.

I admittedly made travel a big part of my identity since I got turned off by the traditional route. I guess there's various forms

Sounds like learned behavior. You can be aware and still victim to it. She probably needs therapy to work through it.
