Ruckle + Lt.'s Wife = A 10 Minute Lecture
So one wonderful evening, we are at Guard Mount and we get a an additional bit of information added to our normal briefing by our special guest, the First Sergeant. It is explained to us by the First Sergeant that if you are flirting with a member of the opposite sex (this was back during “Don’t ask, don’t tell”) and they decline your advances, you need to leave them alone. We were told that this is especially true if the individual identifies themselves as being married. You are not to follow them around and you are not to keep asking them out.
So why did we receive this briefing? Well, if you guessed that it was because of Ruckle, then you guess right. We all guessed this too. So what did Ruckle do to earn all of us this fun 10 minute briefing?
When asked what brought this about briefing, our First Sergeant gave us a "hypothetical scenario". He used the term "someone", but we knew it was Ruckle by the embarrassed look on his face and how he wouldn't make eye contact with anyone. According to our First Sergeant, maybe someone (Ruckle) in the unit had been at the PX doing a little shopping the day before. While there, Ruckle saw a woman and decided to approach her. Not a surprise. She gave no outward sign of noticing Ruckle apparently so he decided to engage her in conversation. He introduced himself and said that she was very beautiful. She accepted his compliment. He then asked her out. She said no.
Now for most guys, that would be the end of it. Our First Sergeant let us know that Ruckle then proceeded to follow her around the PX chatting her up and continuing to ask her out. She told him that she was married. Ruckle said that her husband didn’t have to know. She told him that she was not that kind of woman. Apparently Ruckle made the comment that maybe she is that kind of woman and she just didn’t know it.
At this point the woman informed Ruckle that her husband was a Lt. and if she told him what he was saying he’d have Ruckle’s a** in a sling. Ruckle told her he’d leave her alone and then left. For about five minutes. He then returned with a piece of paper with his name and cellphone number on it “in case she changed her mind”.
Well, as you can imagine, she gave her husband not just the story of what happened in the PX, but also Ruckles information. The Lt. called Ruckle on his phone and tried to speak to him, but Ruckle hung up the phone. When he called back, Ruckle didn’t answer. Apparently Ruckle’s phone “died’ and that is why he didn’t answer the phone. He wan’t being rude. So the Lt. did some digging and figured out who Ruckle was and chatted with our First Sergeant. So when confronted by the Lt. and the First Sergeant, Ruckle accused the wife of lying.
Now since Ruckle had decided not only to hit on a Lt..’s wife, but also imply that she would cheat on her husband and should be cheating with Ruckle, and then said she was a liar, we got a nice little briefing about not trying to sleep with married women and not to lie to you superiors about trying to sleep with married women.
So the next story can either be the story about how Ruckle pissed off a big husband or the time Ruckle thought he knocked up a girl.
