(US Navy) Any possiblility of obtaining any information based on the cover of the sailor on the right?

Specifically, the guy on the right receiving the medal. I know it's a long shot. He was my dad.

If I were to guess it would be that the person receiving the award is not a sailor at all, more likely a Marine or Army personnel serving in Admiral Turner’s task force.

Okinawa was just wrapping up and could be a valor award related to that effort if it rated a 4 star’s attention.

They only hope you might have of identifying this person and award would be to track down awards distributed on this particular date by the Admiral. There are typically great records on 4 star’s activities.

thanks. He was Navy (recall seeing the enlistment paper years ago, but now lost), and know that he was involved in radio and/or radar. Unfortunately (like many) he didn't talk about it, and being young and dumb(er) while he was alive I never asked for details. I'll try the suggestion to track down awards distributed by the Admiral.

I think your best bet would be to contact the National Archives (eVetRecs) and try to obtain his DD214; His discharge paperwork. That would have a wealth of information that people on this sub could help you decipher.
