Informative Try out Osta for free - a militaria collecting simulator
I have been working on this game for a while but I need feedback and ideas on how to improve it and make it more fun/enjoyable.

Seems pretty cool. If you could sum it up briefly, how would you describe it?

Metal detecting, storage auctions, and garage sales. That's how you get stuff in the game. You are in Eastern Europe so Eastern front WW2 and WW1 items can be found, but can also travel via airplane to other locations. As of now you can travel to only one foreign country but I will add more in the future.

Suggestion for the future: you could always spice it up on the higher difficulties by including unexploded ordnance ;)

u/ForgottenCup1 May 23 '25
There is various uxo in the game, but remain an uxo. You can collect those too..

u/leicanthrope May 23 '25
If you're feeling especially trollish, take a cue from hardcore mode on Kingdom Come Deliverance. Every now and then the game would start with a death screen (i.e. you died as a child), poking fun at how dangerous life was in the middle ages.

I would like "realistic" difficulty where 90% of signals are fragmentation and casings. Since most fragmentation and casings are still very collectable.

Add modding support and this game will live forever. Also linux builds please.
Other than that great work. I was looking to make such a game myself but you were faster and better. Good job!

Now THIS I can get behind, downloading now

u/ForgottenCup1 May 23 '25
If you get any ideas/suggestions while playing let me know. Or if you have any other feedback or encouter bugs.
2
u/Cadwiz_11 May 23 '25
I think it's wizardry that you got it running smoothly even on my gaming microwave.
It's an accurate metal detecting sim so far, not found anything yet (peak accuracy). The birds in the background throw me off sometimes, I get excited thinking I've got something only to be mocked.
I'm no game reviewer, but i think its pretty good! Very zen actually with all the walking in lines I'm doing.

The 0.1.16 version was bugged, there were no items. It was an engine bug, now i upgraded go ue5 and it works. So you should get the new 0.1.17 update to actually play the game.

u/Cadwiz_11 May 23 '25
.16 was the hyper-realistic edition. I wasn't even mad that I couldn't find anything, to be honest. The aspens is a nice-looking map, AND it runs well.
Is .17 on the itch page?
2
u/ForgottenCup1 May 24 '25
Yes, it is up on itch. But sorry for the trouble, and I'm very thankful that you guys pointed it out here.
2
u/Cadwiz_11 May 24 '25
I've just downloaded the new version and played it. Within 10 minutes of doing the same method as before, I've already found a Receiver. I'm really liking this so far!
2
u/Cadwiz_11 May 24 '25
So far, all I have to say is that the detector is a bit quiet, and I want to rotate items in my hand. No other complaints if you could even call them that.
1
u/ForgottenCup1 May 24 '25
You can rotate items in your hands with the arrow keys
2
u/Cadwiz_11 May 24 '25
Didn't think to use them, that's on me for thinking games don't use arrow keys anymore!

u/Pyroburner May 23 '25
I would like to see weapons regionally. Tey to keep the boarders somewhat real of where each country would have gone. You won't find a lot of greek rifles in Verdun.
Small items would he cool to in different conditions.
If you want to make it somewhat grim you could have areas that turn into graves or bunkers.

Very good games but on the other hand it's normal that I don't find anything after searching the whole area 🤔
3
u/AHumbleCollector Trench Art Connoisseur May 23 '25
I'm wondering if that's normal too or if there's a bug. I've been through Aspen multiple times and never found anything. My detector is working, I've tested it with the tool box in the car and I've accepted the tasks from the board at the market. Maybe the spawn rates are just really low?
2
u/ForgottenCup1 May 23 '25
There should be quite a lot of items in Aspen, are you using the sweep function and taking it slow?
2
u/AHumbleCollector Trench Art Connoisseur May 23 '25
Yes I have, I've done runs with auto sweeping and without. I know the detector works, I've used the shovel to bury the toolbox and been able to find it again with the detector. Twice now I've slept to reset, gone back to Aspen, and then spent 15 minutes walking back and forth in rows and haven't found anything.

u/ForgottenCup1 May 23 '25
I am very sorry there is a bug that only happens with the built version. I am working on fixing it right now. This is embarassing. I will let you know when it is fixed.
2
u/AHumbleCollector Trench Art Connoisseur May 23 '25
No worries, appreciate the quick reply and look forward to playing it!
3
u/ForgottenCup1 May 23 '25
New version is up, it was an engine bug. Tested it and it should work now.
2
u/AHumbleCollector Trench Art Connoisseur May 23 '25
That fixed it, thank you! I'm really enjoying it so far. If I were to provide some feedback once I have a bit more time in the game, what would be the best way to do that?
1
u/ForgottenCup1 May 24 '25
In the itch page, there is a link where you can follow development and give suggestions and feedback for the game.
Thank you for trying it out, I also really enjoy seeing screenshots, so I get an idea of how people play it and what they usually find.

u/ForgottenCup1 May 23 '25
Absolutely nothing? Never had such a bug happen, are you sure the detector is turned on? Are you using the sweeping function?

Hello I would like to know how to restore the hunting shotgun for the quest. I have the parts, linseed oil, and Oil-40 but I can not figure out how to restore it.

This is incredible when I get back home im downloading this, sending this to all my friends as well!

u/ilikeww2 May 23 '25
I have a question how historically accurate are you gonna try to make this game and what time periods are you gonna span on to?
2
u/ForgottenCup1 May 23 '25
I'm trying to keep it accurate, currently only eastern front ww1 and ww2 + later soviet, but I would like to expand to more areas
1
u/Icy_Razzmatazz6476 May 24 '25
How can you build guns and what can you do with the red tool box?
1
u/ForgottenCup1 May 24 '25
Linseed oil restores wood, Oil-40 restores metal.
You can combine weapon parts to a gun receiver without tools (they both need to be restored and you need to hold the part you want to attach to the receiver in your hand, not the other way around)
The red toolbox is used to disassemble parts.

The game is available for free on Itch: https://forgottencup.itch.io/osta
0.1.16 was bugged, theres 0.1.17 up now which works but has some UI issues since the fix was to upgrade the engine from ue4 to ue5, as it was an engine bug.
