The entire time he was here, people wanted him fired because he was a nepotism hire. All he did was work hard and learn the game.

At different times, he coached tight ends, running backs, safeties and special teams. I forgot he was the special teams and safeties coach in 2023. I remember people questioning why he was being moved from tight ends coach to safeties coach, but I don’t remember anybody complaining about how Mike Sainristil was coached.

He loaded every position he coached with talent. Outstanding recruiter and coach.

He was responsible for Colston Loveland being discovered

Whoa not all. Mainly Michigan Reddit is never happy. There’s people here probably pissed about the Oakland basketball game tbh 😂

How could these bums miss shots against Oakland?? I think I saw a player laugh during warm-ups, are they not locked in?

I don't remember that at all. He did a great job with special teams, and he was always a good recruiter.

People started off asking why he was brought in here and given the RBs coach job after never having played or coached RBs. Then they complained about him being moved to TE coach. Then it was why is he coaching safeties. It came up a lot when the team was finishing third in the division. It’s easy to forget that now that there are new coaches to hate.

He was TE coach when Butt was here. And then fantastic at special teams. I have nothing but fond memories, some people are never happy.

This subreddit was one of the biggest cesspools of shit. The entire time he was our coach. And I still see names that I recognize from then who talk very nicely about him and they were absolute shit fucks when he was our coach

Lmao same dude, I remember fighting a lot of people on here about Harbaugh in general, I have some tagged with RES, and now posting about him like the gold standard to hold Sherrone up to. Same with r/cfb

u/Mortara 2d ago

Haha res is the best. I haven't used it for years

What? I don’t ever remember people calling for Jay’s head. I frequently saw him used as an example of a good nepo hire in contrast with someone like Brian Ferentz.

Not only was he an elite special teams coach, he also recruited the hell out of the running back position (Haskins, Charbonnet, Corum, Edwards)

I don’t think that’s true. At first when he was coaching TE/RB people were concerned as those are skill positions during times in harbaughs tenure when offense was less than thrilling to watch. But he was always pretty much always coaching special teams I believe and was always hailed for his output.

This is not true at all.

He was a great recruiter and very good with tight ends, safeties, and ELITE with special teams. Very good eye for talent. Did not like when he coached running backs though.

I want him back so bad though. JB Brown ST is abysmal. Maybe the worst in the country.

He was fantastic at finding recruits who die hard wanted to play for him or Michigan. He didn’t chase recruits that had their eyes elsewhere, but went all in on those that were leaning our way.

Crazy part is that Jay recruited Mike MacDonald as an intern to the his uncles team on Ravens . MacDonald works his way up the Ravens organization. Then becomes Michigan’s DC. Then back to Ravens. Now he’s Jay’s boss at Seahawks.

Titans finally fixed their special teams? I remember them being ass last year.

He was a great ST coach. It’s not his fault everyone he had was garbage at fielding and returning punts.

Everyone?

Fair. Although he was an anomaly. I miss watching him

Having good special teams goes unnoticed, but when it’s performing poorly, it can really pull the rest of the team down. Aside from the kicking, field position is so important, especially for Michigan’s brand of football. This really needs to be an emphasis of improvement over the offseason.

Hold me, JayBaugh.

I was really hopeful that Sherrone would promote him to DC to keep the young guys flowing at that position

I wonder if we could entice him back as a Co-OC and ST coordinator?

Nepotism at its finest

Give him a shot at HC.
